DIFFERENT COVER!!

From the back cover:

'The Yellow Wallpaper
and Other Stories

A classic of 'female Gothic' by an American feminist pioneer

In The Yellow Wallpaper a wife is driven mad by her husband's 'cure' for her desire to write. In the other four powerful stories, Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935) illuminates the struggle of turn-of-the-century women to shake loose traditional sex-roles and establish a society based on women's stronger sense of moral justice.
The Yellow Wallpaper is included in Four Stories by American Women, which is published in Penguin Classics.'

This is a tiny paperback in the series Penguin Classics, published - obviously :-) - in 1995. I think the book, or story, was originally published in 1899.

I've never read anything by this author - I think - but I've heard good things about her. So will read this sooner or later. :-)

I bought this book at a flea market at Grünerløkka elementary school on Sunday, October 25th, 2008.

9 out of 10

I've read this book now, or actually a while ago ... but I am a seriously slow journaller, I'm afraid procrastionation's in my nature. :-) Better late than never ... and I really did enjoy this book, a lot. There are five stories in it, I didn't like them all as much, but this was due to the subject matter and not the quality of the writing, which is excellent throughout. The title story was my favorite - it deals with mental illness and it was an absolutely fascinating thought experiment. I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this writer.
