This is my best read so far in 2009. The story is amazing. One man who decides to build schools in Pakistan and who reaches that goal several times over. Incredibly inspiring and a great look into the life of the Muslim world.

A must read in my opinion! I'll offer it as a bookring but it is an "older" book (2006) so everyone may have read it already.

Just got this book today!! yayy! thank you!
There was a little delay- I thought it would get to me sooner, but I went back to college and it was mailed to my house. My parents then shipped it to me.
I'll journal again after I read it-- shouldn't be more than 2-3 weeks.

Journal Entry 5 by BouncingFerret on Wednesday, June 3, 2009
First of all, I want to apoligize to everyone in this ring for taking so long with this book! I meant to have it read in about 2 weeks, but I fell in love and lost track of time <3 I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, though. Anyway.

This book is the biography of Greg Mortenson. We see him first as a young, lost, poor guy who doesn't know where his life is going. He transforms into a dedicated, compassionate "American hero" as his story progresses, however. It's an amazing true account of the difficulties he faced in his mission to bring education to the poor rural children of Pakistan (even girls). I find this book especially inspiring as I just finished my Bachelor's degree. I feel that I have the ability to do anything after reading about Mortenson and his life. I'm sure you'll all enjoy this book.

I should have it shipped to the next person on the list by the end of the week; will make release notes when it's on its way.

This was an intense read for me and I was hoping to like it more than I did. I do appreciate Mr. Mortenson effort to promote peace through education and building of schools but at the same time I feel that his efforts were somewhat extreme but none the less a moving and powerful story. Having said that, this book is a must read and I thank Kimmi for sharing I have PM valerief for her address and as soon as I receive it I will send it on its way.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

What a fantastic, inspiring book. Since high school I've been involved with community service, and lately I've wanted to do more; this book will encourage you to go out there and change the world. Greg Mortenson just released another memoir which picks up where this book leaves off in 2006. Share this title with a friend!

This will be off to Tregossip before the week is up.

Arrived safe and well, thanks.
Update 15/3:- Like ravencat I was hoping to like this book more than I did. Whilst inspirational in promoting peace through education, especially education for girls.
Felt his tardiness/lateness rather disrespectful to what ever culture.
It was Mortenson I had a problem with, not Relin.

Journal Entry 15 by hakkalina from Budapest, Pest Hungary on Wednesday, March 24, 2010
The book arrived safely, I gathered it from my p.o.box this morning. Concerning the reading, well, I have 3 rings/rays before or beside it. I will do my best. Any case of delay I will inform you here, in my JE.

Update: 2010.04.16.
As how much I was awaited to read this novel, now I can't find place, time and mood to read. In some way it is hard to keep my attention on the story, which could be interesting, only its message is digested with difficulty - for me, right now. According to the The Rights of the Reader book, I have "The right not to finish a book".. so I gave up :))

Update: 2010.04.18.
J4shaw has already had a copy, so I became the last reader, no obligatory to send the book on right now. It is a piece of good news for me, considering I won TIME to read this book. I promise the book will travel again some time later.

Journal Entry 16 by Kimmi from Kelowna, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, May 2, 2010
Thank you to everyone who participated!

Hakkalina, I am glad that you have more time now to finish the book when the mood is right for you. I hope it will travel again one day.

Journal Entry 17 by hakkalina at Budapest, Pest Hungary on Saturday, July 31, 2010
I tried to read it, but I couldn't immerse into it. It is not the book's fault, rather my English is not adequate to read it, I found many unfamilar words, thus I lost my interest. Maybe I should try the Hungarian version...

I let this book go on. Mafarrimond claimed this book on BookRelay from me.
