Very interesting book. I had heard about this physician's case at the time. Being stuck at the south pole during winter, developing cancer and having to treat herself until the weather warmed enough to allow the planes to land. I liked hearing the story from her and also lots of really interesting info about life in Antarctica and "wintering over" when noone can get in or out, and living simply and connecting with people becomes so important. I gave this book to my sister- hope she enjoys it!
I found this book at a library sale in North Battleford, SK. I'd heard about Bookcrossing in the media many years back and came across the website again a few months ago. It seems sort of serendipitous that I'd find a bookcrossing book so soon after being reintroduced to the idea.
I'm looking forward to reading the book. Wasn't there a made-for-tv movie based on this story?

Really enjoyed the book, not just the personal story but learning so much about life in Antarctica. Will probably search out stories on early exploration of the continent. Will be passing this book along to a friend today. Hope she enjoys it as much as I did.
