I have to read this book for my book club.

Joss Moody has died and the jazz world is in mourning. But in death, Joss can no longer guard the secret he kept all his life, and Colman, his son, must confront the truth: the man he believed to be his father was, in fact, a woman.

Loved this book!
This is a love story that deals with the theme of grief.
An easy read.

Thanks for the book Angela, it arrived a few days ago but this is the first chance i've had to journal it. The postcard is beautiful and Hammersmith looks truly wonderful. I'll have to find a postcard of Sunderland to send to you, although a decent one may be hard to find lol xx

A lovely book. It really made me smile a lot and I loved how no-one even cared (well except the journalist) about the gender question but were united in their grief for Joss Moody the man; the jazz musician; the friend; and the family man.

This tender and melodic story tells of how the friends and family of a world-famous jass musician cope both with his death and with the revelation that he was not a man, but a woman. What touched me the most was that those who loved Joss Moody seemed unphased by the fact he was a woman who lived as a man. Only his son couldn't take it in his stride, but he did eventually accept his father for who he was in life. The writing itself is a masterclass in how prose can be used to create mood and convey emotion (especially the numbness and anger of grief) not just through the words that are chosen, but by the way they are used. For me, Millie's shock at her husband's death came through so clearly in the spare and unsentimental way she told her story.

A beautiful story, beautifully told.

My SuRprise Pack Arrived!!

It arrived safely - on Monday, but I had no time to fetch it from post office. Thank you much deludeddaydream, I have never read and even heard of this book yet. I like your postcard. Do you think this book as a "thin" one? Well, for me it is not a thin one, but luckily it has got breezy lines which makes my reading "faster". :)

Some months ago I started to read this, but I got stuck, I don't know why, but rather thanks to my busy life, which averted me from reading then the story itself. I think I put it aside in order that sometime I would continue, but that time hasn't come.

Now, Zwetschgi asked this book from me, and I let it go. This book is on her wishlist, and I am so happy in order to fulfill her wish.

Thank you SO much, hakkalina, for this RABCK-book.
I am truly looking forward to the story - already read a couple of pages and really liked it so far.

I truly liked this book. The (unbelievable) story is beautifully told. I have a baby, six weeks old, and I just got time to read it after we went to bed right before midnight. But it was worth it!
The only thing I was looking forward to was getting to now more about Josephine Moore - so that's the reason why the book just gets 9 points instead of 10 - for me that was not quite enough.
Did they actually ever talk about making a movie about the story? Would be very interesting.
