This updated 19th century romantic adventure begins with a woman's death in an upper room of an old house on the wild coast of Scotland, and tells the story of a romance between Scottish fisherman Malcolm and the willful, adventurous girl he tries to resist.

8 out of 10

I was pleasantly surprised with this book, mystery, romance and intrigue. George MacDonald has the rare gift of seeing good in man, and even rarer, the gift of showing a just God. However, Malcolm might be just a little too good to be true! Now I have to find the sequel!
