A sweet little tale about how to deal with the death of a friend - although a heavy storyline it is dealt with in a humerous and touching way. I think this is a great read for kids of all ages.
Read as part of my BBC Big Read Top 100 Challenge.

Received in the post this morning as part of my Big Read effort, thanks Lindlec. I will read next and journal later.
Its quite a sad tale of a young girl trying to come to terms with the sudden death of her best friend and the associated misplaced guilt and deals with both in quite a mature way for a book that is supposed to be aimed at children, but I don’t think it would be much of a comfort to anyone who has experienced a loss themselves nor would I recommend it to any adolescents who may be experiencing any body image issues with the inclusions of both the stereotypical fat boy comic and the overweight but really nice girl.

I finished reading this today. Jade feels guilty about the death of her friend, Vicky and keeps imaging her as a ghost. But she comes to realize how much Vicky held her back from doing the things she enjoyed (drama club) and making her own friends. She needs to come to terms with Vicky's death and get on with her own life. I really didn't like Vicky or her mom and wondered at the difference between the real Vicky and Jade's lasting image of her (or how Vicky made her feel).

I hadn't ready any Jacqueline Wilson before, but picked up this one as part of my challenge to read all of the BBC's Top 100 books. It's not bad - very much a kids' book, but a good one. She's done a fab job of capturing what it's like to be a teenager. I wonder how well they'll stand the test of time though!
This book arrived here today - to a country it hasn't yet visited! It's in great shape for having visited so many people!
I'm also reading this book for the BBC challenge. I'll journal again when I've finished. Thanks for sending it along!

Jade doesn't know what to do with herself when her best friend Vicky is hit by a car and dies. She has trouble coming to terms with her guilt, and it doesn't help that Vicky herself has decided to tag along beside Jade as an angel without wings. Only Jade can see and hear Vicky, which distracts her. Slowly, Jade realizes how rude, cruel, and manipulative Vicky could be. Jade needs to come to terms with her guilt before she can move on with her life.
This book was ranked number 86 in the BBC Top 100. Why? It's a children's/young adult book, and one that I don't think would do a very good job at helping a teenager get over the grief of losing someone close. The family dynamics are also kind of weird. I understand that there are things going on in her family, but she seems to not think of her dad as a dad. It just feels kind of off.
I wasn't too impressed. I should be blown away by these books since they were ranked in the top 100 of all time and I definitely was not blown away by this.
Reserved for jPix.

Enjoy!!
Thanks for sending this to me HoserLauren, I will also be reading it as part of the BBC Big Read top 100. I agree it's in great condition considering all the travelling it's done!
Not bad at all. I agree it's a little misplaced in the top 100 but a lot of kids must have voted and Jacqueline Wilson books seem very popular with kids and young teens. I suppose they would find these books much more relevant than a Dickens. Maybe I would have at that age as I only got into real classics in recent years. I hope they do another vote though, it's been 5 years now.

One of the BBC top 100 Big Reads.
Have to agree with the previous comments in thread, this book seemed a bit off, strange aprent dynamics (telling Jade about the affair and how she didn't really love him anyway, the weird Dad, and the stereotypes)
