The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life

From Back Cover:
"I've changed a bit since high school. Back then I said no to using and selling drugs. I washed on a normal basis and still had good credit."
Introducing Laurie Notaro, the leader of the Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club. Every day she fearlessly rises from bed to defeat the evil machinations of dolts, dimwits, and creepy boyfriends--and that's before she even puts on a bra.
For the past ten years, Notaro has been entertaining Phoenix newspaper readers with her wildly amusing autobiographical explots and unique life experiences. She writes about a world of hourly-wage jobs that require absolutely no skills, a mother who hands down judgments more forcefully than anyone seated on the Supreme Court, horrific high school reunions, and hangovers that leave her surprised that she woke up in the first place.
The misadventures of Laurie and her fellow Idiot Girls ("too cool to be in the Smart Group") unfold in a world that everyone will recognize but no one has ever described so hilariously. She delivers the goods: life as we all know it.
My Review:
I really enjoyed this book. Laurie Notaro is really nuts and I like that. It's better to be weird and crazy than dull and boring!
I am reserving this for a replacement for my Bookray, in case it goes missing.

Sending to HunterRyu to re-start this Bookray with a new copy of the book! Enjoy the book!
Received safely, will read soon and send along, thanks. I look forward to this ^_^
This book was highly entertaining and the author has a splendid sense of humor, not too over the top but more than enough to make anyone laugh. My only complaint is that pretty much all the stories involved smoking or drinking in some way and it just seems like she could find other aspects of her life to mention and mock besides cancer sticks and being a drunk.

Received this today. I discovered Laurie Notaro when I read We Thought You Would be Prettier. Looking forward to more of her funny stories.
I pretty much agree w/ HunterRyu's review. This is the 2nd of Notaro's books I've read (1st one was We Thought You Would be Prettier, which sold me on her stories and her humor). Years ago, when I first heard of this title, it never caught my attention, I think because of the term "Idiot Girls." Seems rather derogatory to me, even now. And I'm of a generation a bit older than Laurie, so I didn't come of age in the 80s. Having said that, and having read WTYWbP before, I really enjoy her humor and look forward to reading more of her books. There were enough family/work stories here, and the ones common to all of us (dentist horror stories), that made it enjoyable overall. I enjoy how Laurie takes a germ of an event or story, exaggerates the hell out of it ;) and comes up with something so wild, yet terribly funny.
Thanks for sharing this JennyC1230. I'm so glad you had an extra copy of this one. I have Emmagoldmanzine's address - this will be sent off to her in a few days.
4/10 update - mailed this off to Emmagoldmanzine today, 1st class, so it should be there quickly.

I got the book last night. I'm looking forward to reading it; it looks hillarious. I'm finishing up a book at the moment, but I'm hoping to get to this book by the beginning of next week.
This books was pretty funny. At times I got a little tired of the "stupid things I did when I was drunk" stories, so I'm glad she sort of stopped them after a bit. I really loved the clown story, since I can totally relate--clowns are scary. I think I'd rather read these as a blog or a column. As a book at times it was a bit too much of the same.
I'm passing it on to a1856 as soon as I get an address.

This book is finally on it's way. a1856 was out of town and then I had trouble logging on to BCing 'cause of the changes. I'm finally able to post this and let you know it's headed to it's new temporary home.
I just got this yesterday. I'm looking forward to reading it. I am headed on a business trip and I think this looks like a great take-along book!
This was pretty fun to read. But I agree that there was a bit much of the "drunk me" stories. Laurie is so much more talented than that. I think she's hilarious, and I will seek out other books of hers!
I have PM'd the next person on the list. As soon as I hear from her, I will send the book on it's way!
