Welcome to BookCrossing!

Thanks for taking the time to read my journal. The book you've found is now yours, no strings attached! You can keep it forever or read it and pass it along like I did. It would be great though, if you could take the time to write a quick note so that I know it found a new home. You can stay annoynomous or sign up. It is free to join and no one gets your email address (plus no spam). If you sign up you will also get notifications if anyone else journals about this book, which is exciting. Who knows how far this book will travel.

This is the third book in an awesome trilogy. If you haven't read the other books then I would recommend picking them up.

Journal Entry 2 by Crossing-Guard from Langdon, Alberta Canada on Sunday, February 22, 2009
The first book in this series was a book that was read for Book Club. Since the third one in the series is hard to find, I am going to use this book in a bookring to let other members read it too. The order is as follows:

Crossing-Guard
Locker-Monster
Megami-no-ushi
Dreamer-kitty
Crossing-Guard

Please try to read the book within three weeks, let me know if you can't. When you receive it please PM the next person on the list so that you can get their address and write a quick entry so that we know where it is in the order. I hope you enjoy the book!

Spoilers Ahead:

So I really enjoyed the book but was sad about a few of the things. I wished that the book had ended differently so that Dar could have continued to rule. She was such a good queen and it saddened me that she had to leave forever. I guess she played her part but still... I was really glad though that she and Sevren ended up together. It seemed like a nice compromise but I would have liked to have gone on that journey with them for a bit more. I am so glad that Kol was killed. He bugged me but not as much as Girta. She realized how foolish she had been in the end but I hated how weak she was. Although there are some strong female characters in the book she definitely wasn't one of them. Really good book and I am sad that the series is over.

Received the book from Crossing-Guard on Sunday. I'll try to finish it before I leave for Vancouver at the end of March.

Journal Entry 5 by locker-monster from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Friday, March 20, 2009
Finished the book on March 19. Will be passing it along to Megami-no-ushi soon, but I wanted to post my thoughts.

SPOILERS

I was disappointed with the ending. Not that I was expecting a happy ending, but the summary on the back of the book said Dar would have to make a sacrifice and I thought that meant someone close to her would have to die. But all the main characters made it through the book; only the villains actually die and their deaths are very anti-climatic. The only thing that Dar sacrifices in the end is her crown and because of that she becomes an outcast from orc society. That part was really stupid. For a society that respects women and gives all the power to them, the rules say that Dar can't remain if she choose to pass on Fathma. I thought that made the ending needlessly tragic. Dar can't remain with her family and loved ones because the rules say so. But the epilogue was nicely ambiguous. You can imagine Dar had a family with Sevren or she returned to Kovok-mah, rules be damned.

Now that I've read the whole series I still have to say that I enjoyed the first book the best.
SPOILERS

Not to say it's not a good series but I felt ambivalent about the ending -I still can't decide if I'm satisfied with how things were resolved. From a cross-cultural perspective the premise that started out so strong about crossing boundaries and understanding the threatening "them" I was disappointed that in the end she was forced back to the "us". Not that part of me wasn't cheering for Sevren from the beginning...

I meant to log this in when I first got it. But I forgot. I picked this up from Crossing-Guard like 3 weeks agao.

I just finished it a couple nights ago, and found this one the hardest of the trilogy to get into. Took me a couple tries, which is why I took so long reading it. But I found that once I got into it further I enjoyed it as much as the other 2.

However, the ending I was quite disappointed in, I think that Morgan Howell just gave up, she totally could've done a much better ending.

All-in-all I still quite enjoyed the series though.

Arrived today. I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens to Dar and her orc friends. I'll start reading it as soon as I finish my current read.

Journal Entry 13 by DitteL from Næstved, Storstrøms Amt Denmark on Thursday, July 30, 2009
I think this was a nice ending to the trilogy. I liked the fact that it wasn't a "happy ending", but that sacrifices had to be made. I think that Dar made the right choice and that it was in accordance with the Dar we have followed through the other books.

Hopefully, the book will continue its journey tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

Read this almost as soon as it came. Sorry for the delay in sending on, real life got in the way unfortunatly. Enjoyed the action and the unexpected changes to the status of Dar. Along with others I feel some dissatisfaction with the ending. I felt it was a little weak but apart from that, the series was very good. Thanks one more time to Crossing Guard for running the ring. It will be on its way today

Thanks for sending this one on to me. I'm curious about how it all ends. Hope to get to this book in a week or two as a few rays have arrived this week.

Journal Entry 18 by Chucklesthescot from Paisley, Scotland United Kingdom on Thursday, October 1, 2009
Not as good as the other books in the series. There was too much time devoted to the rituals of the Queen and not enough on the final battle with the enemy. The end battle was a bit of a let down after building up to it for 3 books. The whole ending was a bit flat. You feel as if a whole chunk of story is missing between the last chapter and the epilogue. Disappointing. I did enjoy the series overall and am glad I signed up for it. Thanks for sharing!

Will post on to jneni hopefully next week depending on postage strikes.
