I read this book back in high school so decided to pick up another copy when I spotted it on special for a couple of dollars.

I read this one back in June, but have been slack with making journal entries on books lately so getting around to doing so now.

The second or third time I have read this book which is a fantastic work of NZ YA fiction but like other YA novels can be enjoyed by adults too.

I first heard about this book back in high school when I was about 14 or 15. Some of the other girls in my class were reading parts of it out loud and going ewww at one particular part. I remember thinking they were being rather immature (and maybe closed minded) but I wanted to read the book myself so got out a copy from the town library. I enjoyed it back then but even more so on the re-read.

This a romantic, dramatic book with insight on love, family, religion and expectations. The two main characters are two high school girls who fall in love. While the love that they have for each other is without trouble it is those around them who make things difficult. One part in particular had me close to tears, Willa and Louie are characters you can really care about.
When this book was first published some people kicked up a fuss about it and I am sure some people would still find it challenging now.

I passed this copy onto a friend who I hope will enjoy it.
