I was really disappointed by Lucy and the way her character is developing in this series, she seems to have jumped across into another role completely, but still doing it perfectly but at the same time flawed (if any of that makes sense lol.
I was glad that we revisited the unfinished business of Carrie, but I was shocked by the major event in the story ...I never saw that one coming at all, and I just hope Kay recovers in time for the next book. Now off on the spiral

Recieved with thanks...

Sorry this sat on my shelf for so long. I read it a couple of months ago, but have been saving it to post on with the next in the spiral...

This book has another good plot from Patricia Cornwell, but once again I found myself really enjoying the forensics/investigation and just being irritated by the relationship stuff. I agree that Lucy is turning out to be extremely annoying, in that she can do any technical thing better than anyone else in the world, but at the same time is so naive and petulant.

Thanks for sharing!

Will post on to candy-is-dandy today...

I am also getting a bit fed up with Lucy - big chip on her shoulder and a complete misery. I'm really not sure what Cornwell is trying to do with her.

This was a hard book to get on with. Why oh why can't there be some happiness in Kay Scarpetta's life? Though I like the forensic science bits the misery of the main characters' lives and their failure to communicate effectively with each other is getting to me.

This is now off to Sandyundead with 'Black Notice' (the following book in the series).

Just received - thank you!

This was an average book in the series. I was also shocked by the main event, and annoyed by Lucy, as well as by the way Kay treats her. I think I would tell her to snap out of it if I was around her!
Passed on to katweeble.

Dr Kay Scarpetta is called into help decipher a fire which was very quick in developing and difficult to interpret. They find a body in the ruins which is the start of another book where Kay and her niece Lucy are working against the psychopath Carrie Grethen while trying to solve this and a series of other fires that they find form a pattern.

I am always a bit ambivalent about these books. I enjoy reading them but find the detail a bit difficult to read - which is strange considering the fact I watch a lot of CSI type of programmes (though I am usually face booking too- maybe that what helps.)
