"Jim (the author) describes this book as a 'devotional biography,' giving readers an insight into Rich's life, but more importantly, allowing the readers to learn what was most important to Rich - urging people to draw near to God."

This is a wonderful book full of stories about and by Rich. Interviews with Rich's family, friends and co-musicians give some wonderful insight into who Rich was and what was most important to him, following and pointing us toward Jesus. As a Rich Mullins fan, this book was a must have for me! I knew a lot of the stories from having years of listening to Rich, hanging out after concerts and listening to his stories, and from spending hours on the Calling Out Your Name web page. But a lot of this was also new to me and I thorougly enjoyed it! I hope you do too.

This edition comes with a 10 song CD of Rich's music. Because I want to share not only Rich's words, but his music, I am sending the CD on the Book Ray journey. Out of respect for Rich's family (and the law!), please DO NOT copy the CD.

Also recommend: Room of Marvels by James Bryan Smith.

BOOK RING COPY

I am starting this ring over with a new book. Because of this, I decided to send an extra little bonus along with the book. The newly released CD/DVD combo "Here in America" with never before released songs. Please pass it along with the book and as with the CD in the book, please DO NOT COPY. Thanks! and enjoy. (Just a little hint, track 13 on the CD has some extras on it, some seperated by a long silence. Be patient and don't miss out on the good stuff!)

Mailing the book by media mail is the least expensive way (or surface mail if it's sent overseas). Please pay for delivery confirmation if mailing in the US (about 55 cents) and post the number in your journal. This helps keep track of the book. Thanks!

How Does a Bookring work?

A book passes from BCer to BCer based on the list of members who've signed up.

To join this bookring please send a PM (private message) to nyisutter and I will add you to the list. New members will be added to the end of the list in the order in which I receive the messages. Please be aware that this is an international bookray and you may have to ship overseas. If you have a hard time shipping overseas, you can let me know and I will try to place you accordingly on the list, but I can't guarantee you won't have to ship internationally. The list of members will be listed here at the book's home page.

As a member, you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Please read it as soon as you can (don't rush, just be reasonable about the length of time). After you read the book, please journal again with your comments. You will then need to PM (private message) the next person on the list for their mailing address.

If you are unable to reach the person after you on the list in a reasonable amount of time, then PM the next person on the list. If any questions come up, please send me a PM. Thank you all for participating in this bookray.

If there is no one on the list after you, please return the book to nyisutter. I will send the book out again if I get more participants.

Sorry this is getting out so late. I've been listening to the CD that last three days. I may go through withdrawals :)

This book was a joy to read. I loved what he had to say about music and worship (actually, about all the topics but those two especially.) I even got to quote some of his songs to 3rd graders in VBS a couple weeks ago. Back in my memories many years, I recall singing Rich Mullin's coruses but didn't realize they were his.

In all I agreed with what he had to say about freedom in Christ. There were three things I would disagree with him on though. He did not help his lead-in singer by getting her a guitar tech that didn't know what he was doing. I believe God tells us to take care of our bodies, the temple of God. And I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt. But these are minor compared to all the good I have picked up from reading this book.

Now it's off to Canada! (The book that is)

I just got this book today. I am so excited because I love Rich Mullins and his music. This will be a great read.

The book CD arrived in the mail today. It's already in my player and have checked out a song that I thought was familiar...it is!

Would like to re-iterate nyisutter's appeal to be patient with track 13 on the other CD. It was fun hearing that as I have participated in that "illusion" while at a Family Camp years ago. It sounded so real I wanted to go run for a jacket or umbrella!

Journal Entry 9 by bc-del-20080226 on Thursday, August 21, 2003
Wow what a book...I loved and learned so much from it. I wish that Rich Mullins never died, and of something so silly as not wearing a seat belt. But it would not have been Rich to die of a normal cause either. When I finished reading this book I felt like I do when I finish reading the bible...like "this is it? There is no more, there has to be more, let me start over and find out if I missed something." I did not start over with this book..although it may be tempting to buy a copy so I can read it again.

Either way, I felt inspired to go back to my bible and read it and just learn to "Be God's"

Still waiting for the CD before I send it to leapinglizzard...She is aware of the long delay and does not mind.

I apologize for being so neglectful. This book is in Mt TBR. I believe I received it near Christmas, and it should have been well on it's way by now. Thanks, LeapingLizzards, for emailing me and reminding me that I hadn't yet journaled it. I will get it out soon.

For those of you who have enjoyed this book, I thought I would mention that the author has recently written a new book, Room of Marvels. A very good book about dealing with the grief and anger he was struggling with following the deaths of Rich Mullins, his daugher Madeline (of Madeline's Song) and his mother. In this book, we get glimpses of Rich aka Wayne, in heaven.

I humbly apologize, and appreciate everyone's wonderful patience with me. Things have been upside down for me lately. This book, and CD, was finally on it's way yesterday.

Sorry I've held on to this for so long ! I have a lot of really legitimate (and serious) reasons but I know excuses are the last thing anyone wants to hear.

To make a long story short this is ready to move on and should be on its way within the week. Have contacted hgranger for mailing address and am just waiting for response.

I loved this book and CD !! Thanks so much nyisutter for sharing it with us. Such a pleasure to read and much to reflect on!

I've been really looking forward to this one, ever since a friend recommended it to me in college - said it changed her life.
I hope to get to this book soon - I have a couple others ahead of it, but I'm looking forward to learning more about Rich Mullins.

Journal Entry 22 by timollie5502 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Thursday, February 24, 2005
I really enjoyed this book. I found that is was best for me to read it as a devotional, one chapter at a time, and then think about the questions listed in the back. Made it very meaningful, and I got much more out of it than I would have just reading it straight through. I also enjoyed getting to hear his CD's very much. Thank you for sharing this book with us!

Mailed off to debnance 3/1/05. I hope you like it as much as I did!

Journal Entry 23 by debnance from Alvin, Texas USA on Wednesday, March 9, 2005
The book arrived today, complete with accompanying CDs and DVDs. I jumped right in. Rich Mullins. I wish I had known him.

More later.

I didn't know much about Rich Mullins, a Christian musician
who died in 1997, before I came across this book, a biography
of sorts about his life and work. I'm very impressed with this
fellow, flaws and all, after reading this book. The book is
part of a bookring and is scheduled to head back to the owner next,
but if you'd like to read it, send a message to Nyisutter at
Bookcrossing and I feel sure she will add you. Cool feature:
The book comes with two CDs and a DVD.

Released 19 yrs ago (3/17/2005 UTC) at Controlled Release (Details In Notes) in -- Mail, by hand, rings, RABCks etc, Texas USA

The package (book, 2 CDs, and DVD) arrived safely today. Thanks for letting me sneak into the bookring, nyisutter. I'm working on learning "Creed" right now (I play piano, not hammered dulcimer, though) so I can play it with my guitar buddies at church. I'll get to this by next week, and then return it to you.

Thanks!

Journal Entry 27 by O-Jenny from Temple, Texas USA on Saturday, March 26, 2005
Thanks for letting me sneak in on this ring, nyisutter. I've always found Rich Mullins' music inspirational; now I find that his life was too. As I read the book, I kept thinking, "This is the kind of Christian I want to be." I want to be as loving, as accepting, as vibrant, as joyful, as questioning, as faithful as Rich was.

Here's one of my favorite of Rich's quotes from the book:

I would rather live on the verge of falling and let my security be the all-sufficiency of the grace of God than to live in some kind of pietistic illusion of moral excellence--not that I don't want to be morally excellent, but my faith isn't in the idea that I'm more moral than anybody else. My faith is in the idea that God and His love are greater than whatever sins any of us commit.
