This is another of the Harry Bosch series of books. This one is actually one of the earlier books while Harry was working for the Homicide Division of the Hollywood Section of the LAPD (the first time). It gives the regular reader of these books a little more background on the problems that Harry had when he was on the force the first time. In fact the book starts with Harry attending psycological evaluation while on enforced leave. Of course, if you have read books about Harry before, it is not a stretch of the imagination to realize that the enforced leave does not prevent Harry from investigating an old, very cold murder case and to continue to step on the toes of the bureaucrats in the PD.
This book has many interesting twists in the plot and each twist reveals information which causes the reader (at least it did me) to change his mind as to who is the murderer and how many murders were there.
