Sending out for Holiday Gift-giving. I hope you enjoy it!
Received this as part of a HGG gift from KateKintail. She was so wonderful and sent me a box of audiobooks. I am old enough to remember the whole Gary Gilmore execution. This sounds very interesting. Thanks for including this audio in the box.
To hear some of the behind the scenes conversations and drama in the Gary Gilmore case, I thought was very interesting. I felt it a haunting look into the mind of a sociopath and one that will spark debate over the penal system, the death sentence and one's right to die. I can't help but wonder, with the right upbringing, this man may have become a well known writer/poet or artist rather than a famous killer. It is all rather sad when you consider the loss of life of innocent victims and the loss of Gary Gilmore's positive potential.
Thanks again for sharing, KateKintail. I will set this aside for a future audiobook box.

Sending this off to JudySlump612. She picked this from iwillrejoice's Anything Goes Audiobook VBB. Enjoy!
Arrived safely here today. Thanks, imawinn2!
This package has a list of the principal characters on the inside flap, and you will really need it, because this abridgment has people simply popping up with no background or explanation. Can we assume an author of Mailer's stature would have provided some opening introductions? If he did, then this is maybe the worst job of abridging a book I have ever heard.
Imawinn2, I've thought hard about your point that Gilmore, with the right upbringing, could have become a writer. Certainly, his letters demonstrated an excellent mind and a strong aptitude for writing. We're told almost nothing about his parents or upbringing - or is that another casualty of the abridgment? But as it is, Gilmore, with a man helpless on the floor, already having taken the money (all $120), put a gun to his victim's head, couldn't think of any reason not to shoot him, so went ahead and killed him.
I don't believe in the death penalty. But if I were ever involved in a case like this, and Gary Gilmore requested his own execution, I would not work to put barriers in his way.
