Between the four books of the Settling Accounts series, there are about 2500 pages of alternate history warfare. It's taken me literally months to read the first three, due to the recent heavy load at my job. But maybe this is a good choice for this time, because they're written in small episodes and repeat background information frequently.
What started out as a large number of characters has now diminished, as there have been a few deaths. I'm getting impatient for this war to be over already, and the narrative has become more disturbing as the level of violence has grown more personal. Some of the "good" characters seem to be getting involved in the commission of war attrocities. But after ten volumes, I am going to read #11 and finish it soon.
While I was reading this, I noticed that some bookcrossers are trying to collect reads set in every state. Well, this book is set in a lot of states all by itself (although sometimes they go by different names in this alternate history), so I decided to start a list. I may have missed a few, but I know for a fact that it does not mention every state, because the one I live in was not mentioned. Here's my list...
Alabama
Alaska
Arkansas
California
Florida
Georgia
Hawaii
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Massachusettes
Mississippi
Nebraska
New Hampshire
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Virginia
Washington
