"Pierre and Agnes are in love but Pierre is engaged to someone else approved by his snobbish mother and the tyrannical family patriach, the industrialist Julian Hardelot. Their love provokes a family fued which cascades down the gnereations."
Irene has done it again. All the beautiful details, this time the atmosphere of two world wars and most importantly the delicate and wise human psychology. I just love her writing and would like to see more people get a chance to read her work so I am offering an international bookring for this book. PM me to join.

Cassiopaeia - Wales, UK - read
jubby - NSW - read
amberC - NSW - read
FreePages - ACT - the book is here!

Arrived in the post just now. Thank you lakelady2282 for sending it all this way, such a pity we haven't more readers over here. I should be able to start this at the end of next week and it hopefully won't take too long before it starts it's return journey.

Really enjoyed this story, thank you lakelady2282 for sending it on it's travels. Having read this and Suite Francaise I can now see how unfinished that book actually was, I think the final draft would have changed radically had she had the chance to complete it.

Sending to jubby in NSW next.

9 out of 10

On the hop here, as I am about to duck out the door to drop this in the post box in time for today's post.
But, wanted to say that I thought this was such a beautifully written book, showing such wonderful insights into the minds of average women and their trivialities during the war.

The saddest part of the story was knowing that no matter what she gave, or whom she loved, the author would not live through the war.
Shocking.

Thank you very much for sharing this lovely book with me.
I bought another of her books at the Sydney Writers' Festival too LakeLay2282.

I enjoyed this lovely book, particularly her writing style. I'm now, more than ever, looking forward to Suite Francaise which is on my TBR pile.

Posting to Freepages on my way to Katherine.

Caught "All our worldly goods" in the letter box today :-)

I loved "Suite Francais" and I have no other bookrings here at the moment, so I'll read it straight away.

Thanks for sending it along amberC.

A magnificent book. Spanning two World Wars and The Depression. Shows the effect of these times on generations of two families. How did this author manage to convey so much in only 200 pages. I was enthralled and couldn't put it down. I find it amazing she was able to write about, what was to her, contemporary upheaval with such wisdom. Let alone the personal loss, it was a great loss to literature that her life was ended in Auschwitz. Heartbreaking! Her novels are such a legacy.
After reading this "Suite Francais" does seem less polished then this one. I hope to read more of her works.

Thanks lakelady2282 for sharing such a wonderful book.

Thanks Kym for posting the book back and thank you everyone for joining the ring. I'm so glad you all enjoyed it. If she could only know now how much her work is being enjoyed 60 odd years later!!!
