What an unexpected delight. At first I thought it was going to be boring- the characters being academics and writers. But then it turned into an interesting narrative for the first third. Then it took an unexpected turn in the 2nd third of the book as a tragedy. And the third part had elements of a good mystery novel. Realistic characters and a fantastic read!

Thank you Dave. Good to catch up with you. Deb wants to read this after me so it will get passed on.
Another of those 'why did I wait so long to read it?' books. This would have to be one of my favourite '1001' books. Thanks Dave for sharing it, and I'll pass it on to Deb today - we're going apartment hunting!
I've decided to make it into a Bookray.

Generally when I read a psychological novel, I take time with the book and often stop to read something else if the novel is a particularly "dense" read. But with What I Loved there was no putting it aside! It was both an exciting and intellectually challenging human drama with incredible characterisation and storylines that I was not expecting. What an amzing writer she is turning out to be. Very highly recommended. Thank you Cat for organising the ring. Will pm wendyv.

tbr - arrived today! Thank you, looks fascinating!
I loved this book and have rated it as one of the est I have read this year. I thought it was wonderfully crafted. I agree with davemurray, it did not sound as compelling as it was in the actual reading. Some of the sections of prose were poetry like and I found the references to the artworks and writing really interesting, as the writer still maintained the focus on the charcters and the plot. I read and reread some sections and anted to write sme of the sentences out, I was so moved by some! I read the middle section of the novel in the car while my son slept and I found myself weeping at the tragedy...
Thank you so much for including me on the ring. I loved it...I think I want to find my own copy! Thank you!

Book has arrived safely - thank you. Adding to my bookring tbr pile - which is a little bigger than I'd like but I will get to this one as soon as I can.
Well - it took me a while to get to this book, but it didn't take long to read it once I started, certainly a compelling read - I enjoyed it and was a bit sad when it was finished. Thanks for sharing.
