Reputed to be the earliest known gospel, not one of the 'official' texts.

These are the sayings of Jesus.

Jesus spoke in riddles, in paradoxes, in koans. He who understands the meaning achieves immortality. The Kingdom of Heaven was all around, not some place else. If it was, for example, in the sky, the birds would have got their first. Seek and ye shall find.

The Kingdom of Heaven is within us and all around us, it is just that we lack the ability to see.

The Gospel of Thomas was part of the Nag Hammadi find. Fragments had been found before. It predates the first four gospels of the New Testament, two of which draw upon an earlier gospel, postulated as Q and now believed to be the Gospel of Thomas.

Most religions have a strong spiritual side, a side that is mainly lacking in Christianity, the religion of the Church not the religion of the followers of Jesus. In the Gospel of Thomas the strong spiritual side of the word of Jesus can be rediscovered.

To understand the word of Jesus you have to reflect on what he said. No priestly caste can do that for you.

An absolute must read for anyone who wishes to understand the word of Jesus.
