Journal Entry 1 by VeronicaT from Hertford, Hertfordshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 22, 2009
This book was written when T H White was a teacher at Stowe, and anyone who has visited this wonderful place can identify the locations. It is set in the grounds, which were laid out in the 18th century - full of follies, vistas, pools, tall trees and secret places. It is the story of a little girl who discovers a race of tiny people and wants to take them over, but who has to learn that they belong to themselves and not to her. It is a tale similar to The Sword in the Stone which T H White also wrote - think of the book, rid your mind of the twee Walt Disney version.
I rate it very highly and recommend it to children and adults alike.
