Katie Takeshima's parents work in the poultry industry in Georgia in the 1950s, and their family is part of the tiny Japanese-American community there. Georgia is the 4th state - it was one of the original 13 colonies. Its nickname is "The Peach State." I've eaten a peach, but I don't think I've been to Georgia. Yet.

Kira-kira is not one one of the words I learned in Japanese language class, but I'll try to remember it - I like sparkly! ;)

Besides, it's a nice way of looking at the world: looking for the glittering bits.
