Ok, I admit it. I'm a sucker for disaster novels..and movies. I've read this one about 3 times and seen the made-for-TV movie twice...

Interesting to read this book about a major catastrophe in New York City, written before September 11, 2001. The really scary part is that the science behind it, even the 125th Street fault, is apparently quite real.

If other bits such as "...like sixty percent of the buildings in New York City, were built of unreinforced masonry..." are also true, we'd better hope that the tremors hold off for a long time while a bunch of retrofit work happens.

New York is was one of the original 13 colonies and it became the 11th state. My book about the states says George Washington called it the "Empire State" but it doesn't say why. I've been there more times than I've been to any other state besides my own, although I haven't seen very much outside of Manhatthan. We did go to Niagara (both sides of the border) when I was a kid.

New York state flag taken from the Flags of the World (FOTW) website and converted to jpg format. All credits for flag graphics are as shown at FOTW.
