Like termistori said, the novel is aged. What made it old-fashioned was the easyness of everything (a technical novelty saves the day), the coldness of the cold war (both USA and Soviet Union want to steal the secret) and the way everyone is smoking all the time, even in space.

It was funny and somewhat refreshing that the story is placed in Denmark, of all places. But it's believable that the Israelite scientist feels the small neutral nation has no ambition to conquer/destroy the world. The antigravity device is put to test, a submarine goes to the moon to rescue a few cosmonauts and suddenly the mankind is already on Mars.

I have read much better novels by Harrison, and luckily this was pretty thin. He clearly has spent some time in Denmark and gotten consult from the Danes, because the book describes the places well and it contains lots of Danish words and sentences.

I've read earlier some Stainless Steel Rat and Bill, the Galactic Hero books by Harrison and I've found them funny. I think this book is something else, so it's interesting to see what I think about this. Thank you Thalasse!

I have to admit, that I like more the ’Stainless Steel Rat’ and ’Bill, the Galactic Hero’ books. They were also naive, but funny as well. This one was only naive. Especially the characters were unconvincing and a bit annoying. But partly there was also some nice elements in the plot and in the great invention.
