Journal Entry 3 by cbayerle from Portland, Oregon USA on Friday, February 06, 2009
I recently moved from Birmingham, AL to Portland, OR. After he found it at a bus stop, a coworker passed this novel to me because he thought it would remind me of home. Carson McCullers' characters are particularly Southern; her descriptions remind me clearly of the part of the country in which I grew up. Each part of the country has a particular feel, and this book definitely reminded me of home. More than this, this is a remarkably engaging novel, easy to read and I found it easy to relate to McCullers' characters. It certainly seems to have inspired a lot of other writers and other artists.
