I just couldn't resist buying this book!!!

:o)

When I'm done reading the book, I will be offering it in a bookray for all to enjoy-- I can't wait to read your journal entries!

Bookray "Rules" (*update 6/16/03-- if no one cares, I'd like to turn this into a book ring after Banana's cool idea!)

In order to maintain privacy, only the Bookcrossing member name of the participants will be posted. When you receive the book, journal it, so we'll know you got it. When you are ready to send the book along, send a PM to the next person in the list asking them for their address details. If you do not hear from that person within 10-14 days, then PM the next person in the list and so forth until you receive confirmation that someone is still willing to be part of the bookray - and then pass it along, and journal the departure of the book!

That's it! if you have any questions, send me a PM.

Enjoy!

What a cute book! I thought this one was better than the first... it just had more meat to it!

Anyhow, I will send it out on Tuesday for Banana to start the bookray.

Please journal it when you get it and again when you send it off. Also, if you may, as the unofficial bookray/ring rules dictate, please attempt to read it and send it off asap.

I hope everyone enjoys!

All the best,

~IACBY

Journal Entry 4 by Banana from Aurora, Colorado USA on Saturday, June 14, 2003
I got this book about a week and a half ago from IACBY. I would have written this journal entry a bit sooner, but I was so excited to get this book that I had to start reading it!
Unfortunately, it didn't start out as well as the first one did. As I had suspected it to, though, it picked up the pace a bit right before the half-way point and now I think it's really good! So, if you're reading it and are a little dissapointed by how it is turning out, just stick with it!
OH, and just to let everyone know, I placed a small yellow sticky note on page 6 with a "private joke" for IACBY. (It's not really all that private- so don't worry). If you could please keep that little note on there I would really appreciate it!
Okay, I'm gonna finish this book soon now and pass it on to the next person on top of the list! BE PREPARED!!!

Journal Entry 5 by Banana from Aurora, Colorado USA on Saturday, June 14, 2003
I swear! If it wasn't attached to my neck I would probably leave my house without a head half of the time!
I thought this book was going around as a BOOKRING and not a BOOKRAY!
In that case, there is no yellow sticky note to worry about! So just read the book and pass it on! (DUH ME!)

Journal Entry 6 by Banana from Aurora, Colorado USA on Sunday, June 15, 2003
I just finished this book and I thought it was absolutely wonderful! I’m sure everyone else who reads it will like it just as much as I did if not more!

As I was finishing the book, a thought occurred to me! If we could keep some sort of traveling documentary about the book like the four girls do about the pants, then each person who receives the book will be able to look back on all the other people who read the book prior to them and learn a bit about every other person. Simultaneously, everyone will be able to send a “piece of themselves” away with the book for the next person to enjoy! (You see, I just graduated from college and this is my first semester in six years that I haven’t had to take a class...so now I’m
creating projects for myself. Go figure.)

Anyway, here is what we will do (don’t worry, it won’t take long...I promise). Between the time you receive the book (and read it of course) and the time you send it on it’s way, attach a little sticky note (tape it in so it won’t fall out) to one of the pages marked “reserved” with something written on it. It can be ANYTHING! Quotes, poems, comics, pictures, recipes, jokes, SHORT stories (don’t forget it’s an index card), words of wisdom from you or someone else...the sky is the limit (but please make sure you keep it clean just in case a young pair of eyes come across this book). The only requirement is to put your name (either real name or screename from bookcrossing) on the upper right hand corner of the sticky note so we will know who contributed what. As the book goes on, more and more will be added....and it will be just like our own pair of pants (that magically fit everyone! The best kind!)

Furthermore, both because I am a geek and I was inspired by the little “rules” set out by the sisterhood, I came up with a little set of “rules” to govern the book. Don’t worry...there’s nothing too bogus. It’s all pretty common sense save for adding the little sticky notes to the pages...but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it! I’m enclosing a copy of the rules with this journal entry as well as with the book. Should you guys have any other questions about this spontaneous idea, please don’t hesitate to PM me! Thanks you guys!!! I think this will be a
huge success (and really cool little project!)

We, the bookcrossing.com book ring/ray, hereby instate the following rules to govern the use of THE SECOND SUMMER OF THE SISTERHOOD...

1. Between the time of receiving the book and when the book is released, you must add your sticky note contribution (taped in) on one of the reserved pages either in the front or back of the book.

2. This book is for reading purposes, not to be used as a step stool, bug squasher, or other form of lethal weapon.

3. It’s summertime! Quit complaining and do something fun!

4. Do not remove anyone else’s sticky note for any reason!

5. Even though the girls in the book refuse to do so, you must wash your pants (and other articles of clothing) on a regular basis. Failure to comply will result in a hideous odor that will force others to avoid you on purpose causing much trauma for all involved.

6. You may use these rules as a bookmark while reading this book, but please put them back where they were found upon completion.

7. Do not take the little things in life for granted.

8. No matter how strong the urge may be, you must not skip around and/or read ahead in this book. (Besides, the story is better that way and reading ahead will probably cause confusion.)

9. Do not pick nose and wipe snot all over pages of the book. It’s really disgusting and may prevent others from reading vital information.

10. Remember: bookcrossing.com = read/release books = come across the one book you have been waiting for = HAPPY PRESENT!

Journal Entry 7 by IACBY from Shaker Heights, Ohio USA on Monday, June 16, 2003
Banana's idea is awesome!!!

I think if no one minds, I'll turn this into a book ring so I can see what kinds of things you guys wrote/drew/taped in! This will be so cool!

I just sent Banana a "Summer Salad" recipe to add in-- Hope you guys like it! :o)

All the best,

~IACBY

Okay, I'm on my way right now to send this book to the next person on the list (SnowPepsi24...in sunny California), who should be getting this book in a couple of days.

I hope everyone follows through and adds a sticky note during the time they have this book!!!

Have a wonderful summer everyone and Happy Reading!

I received this book today. Wahoo!! I'm anxious to start reading it. I'll have to hide it from SnowSquirt and SnowSprite though, because they will both try to read it before me, before each other, and before the rest of you. Kinda rude. They can get their own copies. I know, not very bookcrossing friendly of me, but none of you have to live with them. :0)

Journal Entry 10 by SnowSprite from Madera, California USA on Tuesday, July 8, 2003
I've been sneaking this book and reading it every time my mom leaves the house (or takes a shower...or goes to sleep). After reading her journal entry just now I'm glad I did. I really wanted to finish it first. Ha! Mom's only on page 264. I slipped my post-it into the back where she probably won't see it. Now I'll have to get SnowSquirt to do it this way, too. Otherwise Mom won't let her read it until after she's done. Mom's really territorial with the books she's currently reading. As you can see by her journal entry. How rude!! I mean it's not like she doesn't eventually get to finish them. We should call her SnowGrinch.; ) Note to self- must delete this message out of Mom's Inbox.

Journal Entry 11 by SnowSquirt from Madera, California USA on Tuesday, July 8, 2003
I just talked to SnowSprite and I've decided to use her method for reading this book. Sprite and I are the ones who first checked out The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants from the library. We let Mom read it. So she owes us. I'm just getting started though , she has a 300 page lead on me right now. But she's a mom and Mom=Busy, I have more time because I'm just a "freeloading" teenager. Hee! Hee! This journal entry to self destruct (from Mom's inbox) in 10 sec. 9...8...7...

Journal Entry 12 by SnowPepsi24 from Cody, Wyoming USA on Monday, July 14, 2003
I just finished this book! Apparently I wasn't the only one. Why do they do this to me? Anyway I loved it. I'll be sending this on to JKate tomorrow. I added my post-it. Sprite did too and I'll try to get Squirt to do one now. See ya later.

Journal Entry 13 by jkate from Pleasant Hill, California USA on Wednesday, July 16, 2003
I got it today and started it. So far it's wonderful. And I'm loving the quotes!!!

Journal Entry 14 by jkate from Pleasant Hill, California USA on Friday, July 18, 2003
I just loved this one. The girls are growing up, getting more mature, and are letting go of past hurts, all the way wearing a lucky pair of jeans. I added my quote in the back-a Judy Collins song that reminded me of Lena.

The Pants!! The Pants are safe with me, thank you! It was a rather dull trudging week, but suddenly the pants book has arrived and things look a little better already. I'm just nearing the end of my current book; I will read it ASAP inorder to devote my undivided attention to this book and then send it on its way.

Journal Entry 17 by IACBY from Shaker Heights, Ohio USA on Sunday, July 27, 2003
Hi everyone!
Follow the pants on the map! (I apologize in advance if I have misplaced your home town :o) I am kinda guessing here LOL! )

I'll add in a world map later on!

Enjoy!

~IACBY

Update 12/31/03....hmmm... this is a bit time consuming. I will wait until the book gets back to me and I'll do it with a real world map and just scan it in :o)

Journal Entry 18 by natasha17 from San Jose, California USA on Wednesday, July 30, 2003
I really enjoyed this one, more than the first I think. I liked that the girls are starting to see that their mothers are people too. That certainly brought back painful memories of those mother/daughter moments you never see in the Hallmark commercials! There were still plenty of sweet times here to make the difficult painful experiences in the book worthwhile, much like real life.

I'll be adding my quote to the collection (fun idea btw!). Thanks for starting this ring, IACBY!

Journal Entry 20 by grover3d on Tuesday, August 12, 2003
Just received - I'll put in on my bookray TBR pile (sad that I now must divide it like that!). Thanks!

Journal Entry 21 by grover3d on Tuesday, November 11, 2003
I read a lot of young adult literature, and I'm especially fond of series sets (Betsy-Tacy, the Anne Emery books, the Melendy books) and I was recently venting about how no one is writing good series books for girls these days - and how quickly I was reminded of this set of books. I really enjoyed the first installment and I LOVED this one - Brashares has a wonderful way of remembering what 16 is really like, and there's nothing to dislike about these girls! Looking forward to the next one - thanks so much for sharing this (and for your neat idea).

P.S. Many apologies for having kept this for so long.

Journal Entry 22 by Grorser from Fredericton, New Brunswick Canada on Saturday, December 6, 2003
Picked it up at the postal outlet today - there are a couple of books ahead of this one - but will get to it as quickly as possible. Will touch base with kayters to get the next address so that it can keep moving along...

Looking forward to the book.

Journal Entry 23 by Grorser from Fredericton, New Brunswick Canada on Wednesday, December 17, 2003
This is actually superior to the first book - the young women are becoming more mature and looking beyond themselves. It's interesting - but I wonder if in "real life" this doesn't happen quite a few years later than it is happening for these teenagers...

Sent off to kayters in Georgia today. Hope you enjoy the book.

Journal Entry 24 by kayters from Lawrenceville, Georgia USA on Wednesday, December 31, 2003
Looking forward to reading this! Will try and read it asap so it can continue on its journey! :)

Update 1/6/2003: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It was even better than the first Summer, or so I thought! I'm not in a very creative mood right now because I am sick with a cold, but I did put a little note in as requested. I have also added a post card that I wish to travel with the book. It has a BCID as it is from a post card book, so please journal the post card as well. Great book and entirely unpredictable.

It's here! I'll get to this as soon as I can.

Journal Entry 32 by jenvince from Scottsdale, Arizona USA on Monday, June 27, 2005
Read the whole book last night, just couldn't put it down! I found Bridget/Bee's story the most interesting. I give her so much credit. The whole book started a bit slow for me, but then it picked up. I do think I liked the first one better, but this was still good.

Princessaurora asked to be skipped. I will be hand-delivering this to IACBY when we meet for coffee. :)

Journal Entry 33 by IACBY from Shaker Heights, Ohio USA on Thursday, July 7, 2005
Over a year later and the book has completed its ring! Wow! Just got this back from jenvince over some coffee and talk :o)

I will give this to Banana at the end of the month! I am sure she will enjoy reading everyone's comments at the reserved areas.
