The 13 Clocks

With the help of his magical protector, Golux, Prince Zorn performs impossible tasks to win the hand of Princess Saralinda.
A unique work of fantasy and one of the stranger inclusions in the 1001 books. Still a great read!

Off to next in line!
The 13 Clocks arrived today in the mail! Yippee! I just finished a bookring book this weekend, so I will start this one tonight!
Zowie! I just finished this book and I decided I should write about it now, while it is still fresh.
The 13 Clocks is a fun fairy tale. It reminds me of The Princess Bride (perhaps PB was modeled after 13 Clocks?) A prince arrives at the castle of a mean, mean Duke, incognito, to find a way to win the hand of the Princess. The Duke sees through his disguise (via his secret spies) and sends the prince off, as he has many other princes in the past, on an impossible mission. But the prince has a helper, the Golux, who is helpful, though he often makes things up.
A new addition to my favorite books of all time list!

Off tomorrow (via the po) to a new reader!
Arrived today. Will add to Mount TBR.
Thurber did a wonderful job with this fairy tale. I even enjoyed the Foreward where he talks about the negoiations that he barely won.
This is definitely a quick read as I finished all but 6 pages at my gym in one morning.
Thank you for sharing. I have crazy-book-lady's address and will try to mail over lunch or after work.

Mailed today. Thanks again for including me
The book has arrived safely in Toronto. I love that it is a Dell Yearling Book! I read so many of them when I was younger.
I really enjoyed this strange little book. I can definitely see how The Princess Bride comes to mind while reading it. The language is wonderful, as is the use of occasional rhyme. I think I will have to find a copy of my own to reread it and to introduce it to my kids when they get older. Thanks davemurray101!
The 13 Clocks is/are on its/their way to stubee in the UK - mailed on April 4.
Happy reading!
It has arrived thanks crazy-book-lady for sending and to davemurray101 for sharing. It's at number 2 on my to be read pile.
EDIT: 5th May - I started reading this on the way to work this morning. I have a feeling I'll have it finsihed by the time I get home.
EDIT: 5th May (part two) - Well I finished it in my lunch break, what a delightful little book this is, I love Marc Simont's illustrations they're so simple but portray the story vividly. Thurber’s writing style is very interesting the word play is very intriguing and his use of rhyme is sublime! (Sorry!)
Thanks davemurray101 for sharing this wonderfully little fantasy fairy tale story with me. I’ll hand it over to KT-J very soon.

Wow what a brilliant little book! I loved this book, I thought the whole package was great. The illustrations were really good and I loved the writing - the random rhymes that ran through the text, the way it was written and the story itself.
Thanks davemurray101 for sharing this gem, I've posted it on to lucy-lemon today - enjoy!
Arrived today, thank you! Really looking forward to reading this :-D
Oh wow, I really liked this book! I wasn't too sure what to expect when I got it in the post, but I thought it was ace. I loved the word play!
Posted to Caroley yesterday.
Received today, thanks Lucy. I've just finished a book so I'll be starting this one next.
Oh this was smashing. It's lovely to catch up with books that I missed as a child.
Thanks for sharing Dave. I'll get it passed on asap.

Off to Deepswamp....
Thanks!
Arrived safe and read at once! Just like the storys I liked as a child.
(written three years before my birth...)
I couldn´t resist doing some bookmarks.. I send them along with the book.
Hey Deepswamp, I just love the cute bookmarks! I've picked one out to keep and will send the rest on - thank you. And thanks too for sending the book all the way home to Australia . . . and accompanied by a friend. This one looks like a fun read.
A thoroughly enjoyable little tale but I agree, it's a rather strange inclusion in the 1001 Books list. Perhaps one of the panel was a real James Thurber fan. I notice that another of his fantasy fairy tales, "The Wonderful O", is also on the list.
I also enjoyed the metre of the prose, the rhymes and the illustrations. Apparently Thurber was blind by the time he wrote "The 13 Clocks", so he could no longer illustrate his own books.
Off to jeniwren very soon.
Update 8th September
jeniwren is passing on this one, so it will be going off to cat207 tomorrow.

Arrived in today's mail. Thanks crimson-tide, and Dave. I've got a couple ahead of this one, but I don't think there's any hurry - lakelady2282 is moving house in a few weeks and will probably not want this until afterwards.

A jewel of a book!
I'll pass this on to Deb on Tuesday, when I help her move house.
Thanks Cat. I really enjoyed our catchup and thanks once again for being my best friend!
What fun and I really got a kick out of the humour. Loved the following quotes:
"Time is for dragonflies and angels. The former live too little and the latter live too long."
"Remember laughter. You'll need it in the blessed Isles of Ever After."
Will pm dolphin-au

Off on more adventures.
The 13 clocks arrived safely. It looks like I should't be too long.
I must confess I was not as impressed with this book as some of you. It was allright, but I personally wouldn't list it as one of the books you'd have to read before you die. It's not bad though, quite smart in places and it had some brilliant bits. I tried to read it to my 8 year old son, nad he did not appreciate it at all, which surprised me, as he usually has pretty good taste for an eight year old ;-).

I have raed gnus boom really fast (which is great because I was starting to doubt my reading speed given that it is taking me forever to read Vineland...).
I enjoyed the book very much. To me it is like a children's tale but written in adult language (I am not sure I would have understood half of it if I had read it as a child, because of the vocabulary used and the construction of the sentences).
I am reserving it for my 1001 books book box that I hope to put together sometime soon!
Thanks davemurray101 for sharing!!
