An ancient skeleton is discovered in Israel-will it shed new light on the life of Jesus or cause the world to doubt?
Dr. Jonathan Weber, Harvard professor and biblical scholar, is looking forward to his sabbatical year on an archaeological dig in Israel. But a spectacular find that seems to be an archaeologist's dream-come-true becomes a nightmare that could be the death rattle of Christianity.
Carefully researched and compellingly written, A Skeleton in God's Closet explores the tension between doubt and faith, science and religion, and one man's determination to find the truth-no matter what the cost.

The cover design looks so, urgh, 60s... but I try not to judge a book by the cover. Thanks for sharing, DPA!

Quite an interesting story, with a rather straight forward plot.

this came back in the 5th round of my audio bookbox. Sounds interesting, so I think I'll give it a try.
I usually prefer unabridged audios, but this abridged one was very good, and I didn't have the feeling that I had missed anything. The narrator, J. Charles, was excellent.

I couldn't resist picking this out of indygo88's audio book box. I love historical stuff and I love shows like Mysteries of the Bible. I guess it is a natural that I gravitated to this audio book. Thanks for sharing!
This was a fun listen. I took it on a road trip and was thankful as I could listen to most of it as I was driving. I don't want to say much 'cause I don't want to spoil it for the next reader, but it was thought provoking. To think, what would one do if such a discovery as Jesus' remains were found? Would you turn Christianity on it's ears by letting the world know? Or would you keep quiet and let sleeping bones lay? Thanks for sharing! I'll be passing this along in the near future.
Putting this in BigJohnLefty's Another Audiobookbox. Happy journey!

Removing from booklady's bookbox. Excited to find this one -- I've had it in paperback for quite a while but still haven't gotten around to reading. Having it on audio will surely move it up on Mt. TBR for me. :')
I remember really wanting to read this when I first read a review about it. I bought a used copy and then It sat on my shelf for a long time. I recently obtained an audio (abridged) copy, so figured that was the way to go in order to get to it more quickly.
It's a decent-sized book, but on audio it's only 3 CD's, so it's apparently been abridged quite a lot, and that was obvious when reading, with all the really abrupt transitions and such. I've not read Paul Maier before, but know that he's a Christian writer. This is a work of fiction, based on the premise that as the result of findings in an archealogical dig, the validity of Jesus Christ's resurrection is questioned. Knowing the history of the author, the reader can fairly easily guess how the book is going to resolve itself, or at least what the outcome will be.
It was a thought-provoking read, although I didn't feel the writing was all that stellar. It read a little more like a non-fiction book than a good thriller, which I think is what Maier was aiming for. There was a romantic storyline on the side, which really didn't add anything to the story and was unnecessary. I'm not sure the abridgement did this book justice, but on the other hand, I'm not sure it was written well enough to make me want to read the unabridged version either. Overall, interesting storyline, but the writing was lukewarm.

A Skeleton In God's Closet by Paul L. Maier is my first read of 2014!
I thought this book was decent... Didn't love it, didn't hate, just thought it was middle of the road. Kind of predictable in parts... The dramatic reading was good.
