From the back cover:

'Medza's mission was simple. He was going to Kala to find Niam's wife and bring her back.

But when Medza got to Kala, a surprise was waiting for him.'

This is a paperback from Heinemann Educational Books, in the series Heinemann Guided Readers. Ie, it's been adapted to a certain level of reading skills. This version was published in 1977; the book was originally published in French in 1957, and for the first time in English in 1958.

This is a former library book - it used to belong to the school library at Kongsberg high school. I'm not entirely sure it was actually discarded - it may have just, ahem, disappeared ... but I'm quite sure that they don't need it back at this point. :-)

I'm generally not interested in adapted books like this, but as the author is Cameroonian I picked it up anyway for its rarity. I'm going to count this book as Cameroon in my A Book From Every Country personal lifetime challenge. Maybe after I've read it someone else will want it for the same purpose. :-)

I bought this book at a flea market at Hasle elementary school in Oslo on March 30th, 2008.

6 out of 10

I've read this book now, finished it this afternoon.

It was an OK read but nothing special. Maybe because it's abridged, it would maybe have been better in a complete edition. But I don't know. The story was relatively interesting, but it didn't give much insight into Cameroonian culture. Some, but not a lot. It's a simple and straightforward story. The main character is kinda annoying, but you bear with him, because he's obviously just young & foolish. :-)

A quick and easy read, with illustration in b/w. I will offer the book on the RABCK forum now, to see if anyone needs to cross Cameroon off their Olympic challenge list. :-)

5 out of 10

I grabbed this book from the fair trade shop in Oslo, when we visited there. It was april I think? I havent been active with bookcrossing and havent managed to register the book here. But I've had it all this time and now I've finished reading it.

The book was very easy to read, quick read. It is written in simple english, at times it was almost irritating to read it as it was so simple and a bit repetititive. The story is nice, characters are a bit crazy. As it is a guided readers -book, it would be good for someone trying to learn english.
