Picked up from the bookshelf at Norton Park. I've wanted to read this for years.
Yes, I laughed out loud:-) In fact, I had to cover my mouth on the bus at times to stop myself from making too much of a spectacle. Bryson just manages to capture the essence of the British so well. He is at his best when discussing things like British attitudes to giving directions, train etiquette, sticky buns, and conversations with waiting staff. How does he do it?

Quite liked this book. I've picked up a few good tips on places to see/avoid. You do come away with the impression that it always rains in Britain.

It's always interesting to read the views of an outsider on a country. Bryson's style is also honest & endearing.
I do wonder though if some of the observations are kind of stereotypes perpetuated by selective remembering? I don't know. Definitely a couple of new places in Britain I want to see now!
