6 out of 10

I really enjoyed Robert Alexander's "The Kitchen Boy", so I had high hopes for this. This was just an OK read for me. Moves slow for the first two-thirds, then picks up. A lot of name dropping of many Russian royals, dukes and duchesses and on down the line. I wasn't entirely well-versed in Russian history, so this got me do do a bit of extra research on the side. Maria makes some rather bad choices once she realizes her father was in danger. This made me want to shake some sense into her!

Ah, thanks, taaza. This looks promising. I'm just fascinated by these events. We'll see.
