 Another from this beautifully produced series of classic travel writing: this one is Mas'udi's account of his travels throughout the East in 915 AD. Known as 'the Arab Herodotus' he ranged far and wide, writing about many lands, peoples and cultures (perhaps checking his facts more carefully than the somewhat credulous Greek historian :-)
