In the bookbox.
caught in the book box - I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and all that, but I love the cover picture on this. Had to have it to try!!
It's really hard to categorise this book. It's a court room drama, without the tension and shenanigans of a John Grisham. It's a love story, without the passion and happy ending of a Marion Keyes. It's a war story, without the action and blood of an Andy McNab. It's also a bit of a Western story, a bit of a Detective story, a bit of a Historical story and a bit of a Literary story...
But that doesn't mean I didn't like it! In fact, I went into this completly blind - I have never seen the film or really heard of the story, but picked it up from a book box mainly because of the lovely cover. I loved the story - so many twists and turns, so many skeins warped and knotted together to make a huge pulsing picture of life on the island. There aren't many happy bits and very little humour, and yet there was also something slightly heart-warming about the tale, even if it was a little heart-breaking too.
I wouldn't say I would read it again - now the story is done I'm not sure I could go on the same journey again. That being said the descriptive, flowing prose would make it very easy to read again. I would look out for the author's other books though and look forward to tracking them down in the future.
