'Meet Will Kelly. English teacher. Film fan. King of sandwich construction. Chief curator in the National Museum of Ex-Girlfriends.
Still in love with The One, Will is desperate to discover if there can be An-Other One. In his decrepit flat where he can't even manage to cook spaghetti hoops without setting off the communal smoke alarm, his life-line is the telephone. Will realises that with a single call friends can either lift him from the depths of depression or completely shatter his hopes.
There's Alice (who remembers his birthday), Simon (who doesn't), Martina (the one-night stand), Kate (the previous tenant of his rented hovel). And of course there's his Ex, Aggi - the inimitable Aggi. His Legendary Girlfriend.
Or is she?
Two men, three women and a donkey called Sandy...
basically it's your classic love hexagon.'
This is the third copy of this book to pass through my hands...I've already tried a wild-release, a RABCK to lovely US BC'er Aisho, so it seems about right that I should have a go at setting a BookRay up with this copy.
It's a funny British chick-lit, told from a male perspective (and written by the chap who used to be the Agony Uncle in 'Just Seventeen', once upon a time), and my boy and I both really enjoyed it. It would make for a nice little summer-y read, nothing too deep or challenging, just a good romp through happily familiar territory. :O)
When it you've finished reading the book, please PM the next person on the list to request their address, and if you haven't had a reply from them after a week and two PM's, just move on to the next name down (and drop me a line to let me know what's happened) - we can always loop back for anyone who misses out due to holidays, etc, but I'd like to keep the book travelling reasonably quickly if at all possible.
As it's a bookray, this one will keep on trucking until it drops to well-loved bits, so if you'd like to be added on at any time, just PM me or drop me a line through my homepage.
***Please bear in mind that there's an ever-increasing list of eager readers patiently waiting to read the book after you. With that in mind, I would ask that you endeavour to get it back on the road again within a couple of weeks of receiving it. If your turn is rapidly approaching and you find that you're up to your armpits in rings and rays, do drop me a line and we'll work something out.***

The tag line of the book is 'A hilarious novel for anyone who has ever dumped, been dumped or lived in a dump'. While none of those has applied to me personally (married to my first serious boyfriend) and has never lived in a dump, (maybe I have low standards) it was a great read.
I identified with Will (the narrator) probably because when the book was written in 1998 I was twenty-six myself and the references back to his youth were spot on. His 'where am I going' and 'I am stuck in a rut' thoughts are typical mid-twenty angst. The story is basically set over a weekend, it is not predictable and follows Will's confused emotions and where they finally lead him. I will be reading Mike Gayle's other books.
A note of interest: the audio book is read by Andrew Lincoln who starred in C4's Teachers, an inspired choice as Will shares a lot of Lincoln's character's traits.
Thanks to LucyCat for the book. I read it this morning after it arrived in the post. It is my first book ray so I was mega excited!

got this book today, sent from talkland (thank you very much!). it's now second on my reading list (sorry... got a book from another bookring early today), but i'm sure it won't take me more than a few days to reach it. and i'm realy looking forward!
it took me exactly 24 hours to finish it (nice to be unemployed, isn't it?). i found it quite refreshing lit, and that is the word when you have 33 degrees outside, believe me. i couldn't help thinking about a pulp song with the same name, and obviously nick hornby's "high fidelity" came to my mind in almost every page (even the lists were there!). and i remembered why i like the pulp and nick hornby so much... it's ready to move on.

update 06/23/03:
yesterday I finish this book, was a really funny to read book... even the end was for me a bit surprising. But I think it was the right thing Will did.
I will make the book ready to sent it off to the next member off this bookray in France.

I got the book today, thanks nikel27! I'm just finishing up the book I'm reading now, so I'll start this one soon.
Just a quick update from me...unfortunately the original copy of 'MLG' has come to a bit of a sticky end...Suzen wrote me a very apologetic PM to explain that her little boy took out his revenge on it after she dared go for a night out with friends (ah, I'm sure all of us with pixies of our own can sympathise!)
The good news is that I actually picked up another copy of it a few weeks ago on a charity shop trawl with my little sis...I'm not quite sure why, it just felt right!
Suzen says that the rest of the story is still readable, so she's going to finish reading that copy and then I'm afraid it's a goner, so the new copy (with the original BC-ID) will be headed straight out to the next ray-reader, Blacksheeps99, Ursula in Austria. The ray must go on! :O)
Happy reading, everyone!

Right-ho, after a brief delay to dig out my copy from the cardboard boxes that are still skulking about the place, the replacement book for this ray is now en route to Blacksheeps99 in Austria...bon voyage et bonne chance!
Received the book this week and I´ve already started reading it! It is really very entertaining! :-)
Thanks a lot to Lucycat for sharing this book (and for the nice bookmark!) :-)

Reading this book is great fun! It is well written, observant and funny. My first chick-book written by a man - I´m sure I´ll give his other books a chance too :-)
They say comedy works best through identification with the character - well; Will is/could be me, (even though I´m a girl :-)) and probably, at least at some point in your life, he's been you too..
"My Legendary Girlfriend" is ready to make its way across the ocean ...to Scout-Finch - enjoy!

I was thrilled to receive a package from Vienna, one of my very favorite European cities..sigh..it's been so long..thanks for sending this such a distance!
Am still seemingly unable to concentrate on anything more challenging than chicklit (too many complicated family health issues) so am happy that this popped up..a bookray I won't have to send on, knowing that I would never get to it. This goes to the top of the pile, I just have a few more chapters of the #3 #1 Ladies Detective Agency book..

received it today, next on my to be read pile.
I really enjoyed this book. I am also very sorry to have taken so long to send it on. This is really as it says on the cover: a book for anyone who has been dumped, dumped or lived in a dump. I can't say that i found any part of this book boring or slow. i would say some other things but don't want to give away any of the plot or ending.
Received today! Will read and pass along. Happy reading!!
Received in the mail the other day. I have 6-week-old twin boys at home so reading takes much longer these days. I will have it done within a month, if not sooner.

I received this book last week, but unfortunately, I am unable to read it at this time because I am moving in a couple of weeks. I have requested JPandJo's address & will send it off when I get it. Hope to read this book someday - it looks exactly like the kind of book I love.
JPandJo asked to be skipped, so I'm sending to Kamala87321. Should go out in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday.
