I have enjoyed most of the Nick Hornby books I have read in the past so was looking forward to this, his first novel for teenagers.

Hornby writes well for the teenage audience and I thought this was a good novel. I thought it looked at the whole teenage pregnancy thing from an interesting viewpoint, the one of the male. Does he flee or does he face up to the situation? Some parts of the novel are a bit odd (won't spoil it by saying which parts) but it didn't prevent me from enjoying the story.

It was interesting how Sam's mum was a teenager when she had him and he makes the observation of feeling judgment put on them both. Sam also makes an interesting quote about some of the teenage mums at his school, something along the lines of they see babies as an accessory, like an iPod, except no one wants to nick it.

Taking this one along to tonight's meetup.

Read this in one sitting. It was quite successful - there were a couple of times where I could feel Nick Hornby's presence as opposed to the teenage narrators' - the writing just didn't seem as natural as his adult novels.Or maybe I'm just too old? Though it did seem odd that music was largely absent from the book - don't teenage s8ers
listen to music anymore?
Anyway, it was a good afternoon read - I hope the finder enjoys it!
