'A young mother travels to New York during the Christmas season to be with her husband, who lies desperately ill in hospital. With her are their two young sons, for whom she is hoping to salvage some of the joy of the holidays, though her own spirits are rapidly reaching a point of despair.
While watching a street musician near Rockefeller Center's famous Christmas Tree, Brian, the younger boy, sees a woman take his mother's wallet, and with it a precious family momento he believes will save his father's life.
Without his mother's knowledge, Brian follows the thief into the city's subway system, thereby beginning a perilous journey that will change his own life, as well as those of his mother and the thief, for ever...'

Bought for £1 in a second-hand book mine of a shop in Felixstowe in Suffolk on the last weekend in August this year when I went for the day with my parents. I was having a very stressful time at work and I think they were worried about me, so a day in the Sun - advertised by our Weather Forecasters as the last sunny weekend of the year (it was!) - probably seemed like a good idea. Full marks to Mum and Dad it was. We revisited a bookshop that sold secondhand books where I had - as a teenager - spent a fortune when we were in the town on holiday. It was larger and further reaching than I remembered and I found this book there. I've been saving it for Advent, so I would be in the Christmas mood for the reading :)
Published in 1996, this was obviously a freebie given away by 'My Weekly' magazine.

Not as psychologically thrilling as other MHC novels, but it fit my self-set challenge to read some Christmas/Advent themed books this year.
A sentimental ending, the only way it could end happily to be honest, and at least in that respect a typical MHC finish.
Making AVL for someone else to enjoy.

The spirit of RABCK came upon me again and I'm posting this off, to somewhere in Europe to a Bookcrosser who knows I'm sending her something off her wishlist, but doesn't know what...
Hopefully will get to post tomorrow from St Ives Post Office, St Ives, Cambridgeshire after my works Christmas do.

The book arrived during the last few days (I've been away). Thank you very much! I think I'll read this book during my Christmas holidays (2 weeks off work, looking forward to it :-) )

A horrible story with a happy ending. I haven't read any MHC books for the last 2 years or so, so it was very nice to read one again, although it wasn't a typical book of hers :-)
