Journal Entry 1 by wingsolittletimewing from Portland, Maine USA on Saturday, May 10, 2003

This book has not been rated.

Small hardcover book. Registered to send out as BookRing as I would like it back at the end.

Traditional 5-7-5 haiku. Albeit a silly subject.

From the front cover: Cat-astrophic wit. One hundred fifty poems--Better than catnip.

Some examples:

You are my best friend,
Person Allergic to Cats
Let me shed on you.

Visitors come. They
Coo over me. Ignoring
Them, I wash my rump.

Surprise! I can jump
Through the newspaper while you
Are still reading it!

Au contraire: I think
The couch looks better with a
Few shredded cushions.

I am a strong and
Adventurous cat. So I
Can't climb down. Big deal.

Hasn't anyone
Around here ever heard of
Something called wet food?

Eyes closed, I lick and
Lick my fur. One gets into
The Zen of it all.

I'm quiet; you're loud.
I want to play; you want to
Read. And so it goes.

You call and I hear.
But I am a jungle cat
And will not answer.

You read books; I like
To lie on top of them. We're
Both bibilophiles.

I'll post this one on the BookRing forum soon.

Received from CMystery through a Book Ring. Cute idea. A few are special but somehow they don't read like "real" haiku. I prefer a book I have, The Tao of Meow. Will send this along soon - it's a quick read.

Read aloud to Warren the WonderCat.

I thought it was a very cute book. He was more into sniffing it than listening to it.

I like
You are wrong. There's no
Rule that says the litter must
Stay inside the box.

Warren likes
A bit of advice:
You're part of my entourage,
And not vice versa.

Will send out to Keeprdg later this week.

Picture is of Warren unwrapping a birthday gift. Just how spoiled is he? The world may never know.

Book came in the mail
On Saturday. Quickly I
Opened and read all.

The poems were cute.
Right on target for how cats
Behave. Made me laugh.

Wonderful poems
About nature's perfection
In furry package.

Will let my mom giggle over this one as she visits this week, then will get out to Cytronella. Thanks, solittletime, for sharing this delightful collection. This was my favorite, in memory of my Alyssa, who went missing over Thanksgiving:

Biff! Crash! I bounce off
The walls. I'm not crazy, I'm
Self-actualized.

My remaining 5 cats (Little Caesar, Thunder, Hobbes, Spookie, and Mystery) liked this one:

I feel no need to
Accomplish things. I exist;
That's triumph enough.

I adored this book, and zipped through it once with Rudy (maine coon cat) and Morticia (black domestic shorthair) my appreciative audience. Shared all agin with my dear husband and the rest of the feline brood: Gomez, Ripley, Fiagaro and Grace.

My favorites:

We meet outside; I
Startle. You're out of context;
Go back inside, please!

I fix one thing, you
Change it back. I just can't keep
Things nice around here.

I want out. I want
In. Out. In. Out. In. Out. In.
Are you angry yet?

The cats liked:

Is it not lovely
The way my fur wafts through the
Air when you pet me?

What does it feel like
to be big, hairless, tail-less,
and pink? Bad, I'll bet.

On it's merry way to Portugal, thanks so much for sharing!

Oh, this is so exciting! My little book has been around the world and came home to me today. What a lot of tales it has to tell. My first BookRing was a success and that makes me want to try another soon. Thank you all, very much, for taking good care of Cat Haiku and completing the circle and returning it to me.

I was really hoping to get this book back soon, since I am planning to attend the BookCrossing Convention in St Louis and we are supposed to bring a favorite book and print out the journal entries for a Book Talk discussion. This was my first choice and I'm so happy that it arrived in time.

By the way, I just realized how much I miss by just reading the PMs that I get on a book that I've released sometimes, and not clicking through to the actual journal entry. I had missed the very cute little moving kitty that leitora has in a journal entry earlier, even though I read the PM. (If any of you have been reading only the PMs, click through to see all the wonderful images that have been placed in the journal entries.)

Thanks again BookRingers for getting my book home safe and sound.

Hello. I don’t have the book, just journaling again [see entries 15 and 16]. Recently, after seeing how far the book has traveled, I privately sent the author another note using her e-address that is in the book and said: “FYI Cat Haiku continues to travel via Bookcrossing.com.”

Today she responded as follows!

Thanks so much for sending me this link! Bookcrossing is a great idea, and
it's a hoot to think my little book is becoming so well-traveled (pity it
doesn't have a little backpack)!

Thanks again --
Yours truly,
Deborah Coates
