Bought used @ "The Little Book Shoppe" in Woodstock.

he Lathe of Heaven is set in the sort of worlds that one would associate with Philip K. Dick, but Ms. Le Guin's treatment of the material, her plot and characterization and concerns, are more akin to the humanistic, ethically engaged, psychologically nuanced fiction of Theodore Sturgeon. The Lathe of Heaven is an insightful and chilling examination of total power, of war and injustice and other age-old problems, of changing the world, of playing God. --Cynthia Ward

Just got this one last week from jmg49 - thanks! It's creepy, but in a good way. A nice, quick read.

By the way, we mailed this out to Genevalove this week. Sorry it took so long. I was waiting to see if my trip to China was going to fall through or not, and eventually, it did. Hope you enjoy the book, Genevalove.

This was a genuinely fascinating book--what if one man's subconscious could redefine reality? Ursula K. LeGuin has an amazing imagination. I loved The Dispossessed, and couldn't put this one down until I'd finished it. This book will be up for grabs at our Shanghai bookcrossers' meetup on Saturday.

Picked this up today at the Shanghai Bookcrossers meeting at the Portman Ritz-Carlton. I hope to read and release it for the December 2005 Heaven & Hell Release Challenge.

It looks like an interesting story and I've just remembered that one of the main characters in the novel 'The Jane Austen Book Club' strongly recommends books by Le Guin to others, which made me curious. Well, now I've got one.

Snatched from me by my husband, before I could properly release it in the December 2005 Heaven & Hell & Inhabitants Release Challenge. Was it a wild release? You bet!

Snatched it from my wife before she could release it, because I want to read it first.

Hubbie gave up after the first few pages, which, I must admit, are confusing and almost kept me from reading on. But I am glad I persevered because this is one of those stories that I just know will stay with me for the rest of my life. For me, The Lathe of Heaven is the perfect mix of utopian literature, SF and psychological drama, with just enough hope and romance (yes, that too!) thrown in. A very satisfying read.

Sending it on to pelikanol in Denmark, who had it on the cliff1976 wish list.

Oh boy, I finished this book ages ago and thought I'd made a journal entry about it *lol* Apparently not!

This was an interesting book. It was recommended to me by another blogger so I was very excited when it was offered to me here. I'd been longing to read it.

It's a very interesting idea that someone would be able to change the world with their dreams and it also shows us what happens when we start to use the gifts we've been given. Or have someone else take advantage of the power another person has. It's strange and very human, I expect. This book is also a perfect example about being careful what you wish for. Things may seem innocent and harmless, but in the end it's out of our hands.

Oh wow! Thank you so much for this pelikanol. I was blown away by The Dispossessed when I read it, and have been looking for copies of her other books in charity shops ever since. I am sure my boyfriend will read this too.

Thank you again, it really made me very happy to open this on a horrible wet and windy day!!

I read this whilst on holiday in France and really enjoyed it. Le Guin makes you sympathise with George and I kept hoping he could find a "cure", for both his sake, and perhaps that of the world too. The actions of Dr Haber are chilling - he seems happy with the way George's subconscious interprets his suggestions for a "better" world, and assumes far too much power. Scary but a great read.

Very good. Often wierd and wonderful, but that is the way of sci-fi. Beautifully written, and I like the fact that Le Guin pushes the boundaries of the generally accepted definition of the genre.

I passed this on to my sister and her boyfriend to read a few months ago, so it's either waiting to be read or travelling somewhere already.
