Journal Entry 2 by 300dogs from Jackson, New Jersey USA on Monday, August 10, 2009
My friend Suzanne told me about this book and I was thrilled to find it at the library book sale last year. I just finished reading it and really enjoyed it. Perry has so much wisdom! I love his "second" family--the one he chose of people who love and care about him. And of course, I now love Bounce too! "Life is tough. It's full of suprises. It's full of obstacles to overcome..." I thought this book would make a great ray. I just offered it so we'll see where it ends up!

Journal Entry 6 by dvg at Postal Release, Given to a fellow bookcrosser -- Controlled Releases on Saturday, August 22, 2009
Released 2 yrs ago (8/24/2009 UTC) at Postal Release, Given to a fellow bookcrosser -- Controlled Releases CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
I absolutely loved this story! I couldn't put it down, picked it up this morning while I was having my coffee and before I realized it, I was done. I just fell in love with Perry - who is so smart - and the family that he picked, his friends and Bounce. He was so fortunate to have a loving Gran who made sure she not only taught him his lessons in learning but his lessons of life. He was able to listen and make all the right decisions for himself. I don't want to give the story away for the next reader, Kerbam1421. So all I will say is Perry is an amazing individual who knows what truly matters in life. I know you will enjoy this wonderful book and its on its way to you first thing Monday morning. Thank you 300dogs for sharing this with me. ((Hugs))

Received this book tonight. Boy oh boy - when it rains, it pours. I'm in the middle of one bookring and then have 3 more before I can get to this one, but I'm a pretty fast reader. I'll keep you updated. I promise I won't keep it too long. I'm anxious to get to this one, esp., after reading a little note from dvg that this is a really good story! :) Thank you for sending my way dvg and thanks 300dogs for including me! :) UPDATE: I started reading this on 9/29/09. I can't believe I've had it for over a month already. So sorry! Should be done within a week.

Journal Entry 11 by ResQgeek from Alexandria, Virginia USA on Saturday, October 17, 2009
Perry L. Crandell is NOT retarded. His IQ is 76, which means he might be slow, but he can figure things out if he tries. Perry's Gram raised him and provided him with every bit of wisdom she could. When she dies, the rest of his disfunctional family forces him from the home she left him, but Perry lands on his feet. His friends find a place for him and he begins life on his own. Everything changes when he wins $12 million in the Lottery. Soon his relatives (not to mention lots of strangers) all want a piece of the action. Perry's innocence and simple wisdom provide a refreshing look at the world and what others often believe to be important. Perry would certainly suggest that our priorities are often in the wrong place. In the end, Perry finds his real family among his friends, those who like him for who his is. There are bittersweet moments along the way, but in the end this is a story about hope and the ability of people to grow beyond their limitations.

I have the book!! I've had the book for about a week - sorry I didn't journal earlier. We just moved this past weekend and between packing, unpacking and lack of internet access I haven't had the opportunity to journal the book yet. I will start reading it tonight as I just finished the ring before this one. Thanks 300dogs for organizing this ring.

Perry is not retarded. He has an IQ of 76. He might be slow, but he is not retarded. Perry lives with his Gram. She has been his only real family for years. Shortly after Gram dies, Perry wins the lottery. His mother and siblings, who wanted nothing to do with Perry for his whole life, are all now very interested in Perry and his money. Lottery is a great story about a simple man, living a simple life, who doesn't take the small things in life for granted. hahaha - I was just about to email daberco (my mom) and suggest this book to her. It looks like she's next on the ring. I'll be dropping the book in the mail soon since I already have her address.

Journal Entry 17 by dabercro from Clinton, Utah USA on Monday, November 23, 2009
A really good book. I found myself getting angry when Perry's family tried to take advantage of Perry. Gram, who raised and loved Perry, prepared him for a future without her. She taught him how to "read" other people and their motives. Gram communicated to Perry from the other side to help him make the right decisions. He had great friends in Keith, Gary, and Cherry.
