I couldn't help opening the parcel at once when I received it today. I kind of guessed what this was about, but couldn't be absolutely sure before noticing the journal. What a wonderful surprise! Thank you so much!

This book has been laying in my bookshelf awfully long time, but now I've read it, and its travels may go on.
This book reminded me of author's another book "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", even though in this book the character didn't die, only was in "the edge". Same kind of philosophical vision of what might happen in such situation, quite universal vision. There were some nice thoughts of life and feelings that I found in a way conforting - I was quite frustrated and tired when I started reading. But reading had kind of healing effect.
Thanks for sharing.

Just had to take this from our meetup! I absolutely loved Five people.. so have to see if Albom manages to pass the magic onto another book.

Unfortunately I was expecting perhaps the wrong things from this book or wasn't prepared to get this somewhat sombre, comfortless and even ugly story. You couldn't help feeling sorry and mad for the mess Charley had made of his life and so awfully sorry for her mother's treatment during her marriage and loneliness after her divorce. Though she was proved to having been courageous after all, her life was nothing to be envious about at any point. No family is perfect, but this one was a sad, miserable bunch. I'm sorry to say, but the story didn't have the same healing effect on me as it had on previous reader.

Safe travels! Wish I could go and visit with the book...and stock up on cheeses and flower bulbs and cheaper handbags and shoes...
What a wonderful surprise. A wishlist book arrived on this cold, dark, windy and rainy day! Thank you very much. I have read your review on it here and also AspenYard's review. Now I'm wondering what I will think about it after reading. I also liked "The Five People You Meet In Heaven". Watch this space for a review! I don't know when it will be, but rest assured I will get around to it soon, hopefully.
Thank you also for the postcard. I like it. It's dark but I see water lily leaves floating on water. I might be totally wrong, but that's what I see! Thanks also for this souvenir from The European Centre Of Culture, this little reflector to help keep me safe when I'm outside on these dark nights. I will hang this on my bag, and pin it to my jacket when I go out at night. You have really lovely handwriting. I'm envious!
This was a very nice and generous thing to do. Thanks once again.

Just popped in to say I will start reading this book tomorrow. At long last I have got around to it! After that it will be going to another Bookcrosser, Deltic. So watch this space for a review!
Book Description
This is the story of Charley, a child of divorce who is always forced to choose between his mother and his father. He grows into a man and starts a family of his own. But one fateful weekend, he leaves his mother to secretly be with his father and she dies while he is gone. This haunts him for years. It unravels his own young family. It leads him to depression and drunkenness. One night, he decides to take his life. But somewhere between this world and the next, he encounters his mother again, in their hometown, and gets to spend one last day with her, the day he missed and always wished he'd had. He asks the questions many of us yearn to ask, the questions we never ask while our parents are alive. By the end of this magical day, Charley discovers how little he really knew about his mother, the secret of how her love saved their family, and how deeply he wants the second chance to save his own.

An easy book to read, but I didn't find it as good as The Five People You Meet In Heaven. The only character I cared about was Chick Benetto's mother, who seemed to be a loving, caring person. I felt sorry for the way she was treated by other people when her husband left, but despite all the knocks, she carried on and held her head up high. I certainly didn't care much for his father, and I also didn't care much for Chick himself, although the book was all about his life. I hope the next reader will enjoy it.
The next reader will be Deltic. This book is reserved until I can mail it to Deltic in June.

How does Mitch Albom write about death and yet always manage to create an easy to read "unputdownable" book? As usual he also makes you think.
Mrs Deltic will probably read this before it travels on. Thanks for sharing it Chamonix44!
