Different from the movie, but just as charming. I don't think I will read this again, though, so it will be set free.

I picked this up at the last BC Toronto social (at the Yellow Griffin).

I enjoy Steve Martin's comedy, but haven't read much of his fiction or prose.

First of all, I must say that I rather enjoyed the book. Steve Martin not only tells a great story with great characters, but lets you inside their head to let you understand what the characters are doing & why --- without too much exposition. One of the characters (I forget her name) reminded me of the over-sexed, value-deficient blonde characters who I disliked in Candance Bushnell's "Four Blondes". Fortunately, she didn't have a large role in the story and she was given her appropriate comeuppance by the end.

Since I finished the book during my recent December vacation in Florida, I decided to release the book at the type of hotel that I imagine Mr. Ray Porter would stay at --- if he were a real person and if he was visiting Florida instead of Beverley Hills.

I saw a young guy reading in one of the chairs in the garden, so I left the book on one of the other chairs. I know that he saw me do so, but didn't know whether or not he would take a look at the book after I'd left.

I wandered onto the Italianite garden in the center of the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach FLA, to wait for my husband to finish a phone call, sat on the very cushy patio furniture, and there was this little book all by itself, not a soul but me in the garden. I picked it up and discovered Book Crossing! We are on our way, via private yacht, to the Cayman Islands, Belize, Roatan, San Blas, Panaman Canal, Nicaragua and Mexico...I will release the book somewhere along the way...but I would like to know how it got from Toronto in November, to Florida in January...

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I released this book in the beautiful lobby of the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo, after taking it with me to Grand Cayman Island, Nicaragua, thru the Panama Canal, and up the Pacific Coast to Costa Rica. I hope some one besides the staff picked it up and will take it on more adventures.

I enjoyed the book very much. Steve Martin is a great writer, and I really loved his characters.
