Darker Than Amber

The 7th Travis McGee book. I've liked all the books in the series so far. Starts with the memorable sentence "We were about to give up and call it a night when somebody dropped the girl off the bridge."
Travis McGee and his friend Meyer are out fishing when they see a woman thrown off a bridge with a concrete block wired to her feet. She's still alive, so Trav dives under to save her. They take her back to the Busted Flush and learn that her name is Evangeline and she's a hooker involved in a scam with a gang of murderers, who threw her off the bridge when she tried to warn one of the victims. Trav goes to rescue her savings and bring the killers to justice.
Includes an introduction by Carl Hiaasen and an excerpt from One Fearful Yellow Eye.

Have never read any of John D. MacDonald's books before so this will be an adventure. He is quite a prolific writer. Not only his "colorful" Travis McGee books but many, many others.
Can't really say more than phantomreader42 without giving too much away. I did enjoy Travis' style & would like to read more of his adventures. I can't believe I have never read any of his books before.
I too love that first line. It kind of grabs your attention at the very start. The ending is just as grabbing as all the threads get tied together in order to pull the sting of sting on the various characters. At times I wondered about his integrity, but in the end he was honorable to both women and victims involved.
An enjoyable and quick read. (Due to both the writing style and the print style.)

I received this book yesterday evening and I am going to try and start reading it either this evening or tomorrow. I am quite excited about reading this book, as I have never read anything by John D. MacDonald before and I love ongoing series. Thank you very much BunzRun for mailing and phantomreader42 for starting this bookray! While I was not extremely enthused with this book, it is not because isn't well written, it is because I am just not that fond of this kind of book! Thank you so much for including me in your bookray PHANTOMREADER42 and I hope to participate in another sometime!
I just received this book in the mail today. It is part of a bookray.I am looking forward to reading it , I think I'll start now!!!!!
