This short story was brought to life with the unique illustrations and typography. The writing style made me feel like I was caught up in the wind, which is such a part of the story. The illustration and words on the last page just broke my heart.

I have Mikavr's address and will be continuing the ring tomorrow. Thanks for organizing it, missgyder!

I love Ray Bradbury, though I do not remember this story. The idea for the series is clever; I will seek out other titles.

Though I've heard a lot about This Present Darkness, I've never read this book. I have never had much luck with Christian fiction, but I'll give this a try and we will see...one never knows.

I have a book for the next (last?) recipient of this fun book game from her wish list ready to go as soon as I get her address.

Journal Entry 19 by debnance from Alvin, Texas USA on Sunday, March 08, 2009

7 out of 10

I don’t like scary books (at all!) but I do love Ray Bradbury. It was that love for Bradbury that carried me through reading this very scary book. The plot is thin: a young boy’s family gather together on All Hallows Eve and the family, all except the boy, are ghouls. The boy is deeply saddened by being different, completely human, in a family where everyone has special, albeit creepy, abilities. The story is rich in sensory details, Bradbury in every way. The appeal of the story for me was greatly increased by the format of the book, a small volume with just the right pictures and script. I could barely make it through this scary story, but even I, a big ole scaredy cat, I could not miss the beautiful writing and the rich characters.
