Journal Entry 2 by eMeReS from Leiden, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, October 25, 2008
I picked this book up at an unexpected mini-meeting at Sola's this morning. It was very nice to meet 2 New Zealand bookcrossers, and Meezil: thank you very much for sharing this book!
Through bookcrossing I have read two other books by Kate Atkinson. I especially love the the way she paints her characters and the way they relate to each other. I will write more when I have read the book and will take it back home to the Netherlands and share or realease it there.

Brought this book home to the Netherlands as a souvenir from my wonderful trip to New Zealand in Oct/Nov. Read it over the past few weeks and loved it!
This was my third Kate Atkinson and I start to recognize certain themes. Again an absent mother and a very complicated family history. There are numerous surprise twists and turns in the plot, I won't spoil it for the next reader by telling too much about it.
If you like thise one I can certainly recommend Behind the Scenes at the Museum and Case Histories

Thanks to eMeReS for sending this to me after seeing it was on my wishlist. Very kind. I'll pass it on to someone else after I've read it. Maybe it will go round the world?

I had an audio book of this when I travelled in Oz five years ago. It was great but the woman's voice sent me to sleep! I could never quite find the place where I was last conscious so I probably missed great chunks of the tale! I'll read it to see.....

Really enjoyed reading this.

I reckon I must have originally slept through the prawn cocktail part as that seemed new(!), though not the following events in the story....

I can well imagine rereading this in a few more years.

I just didn't want to leave it somewhere and the journal entries to dry up;
especially given that it's travelled so far and been enjoyed. Maybe it will end
up back in New Zealand at some point!

Thanks so much for this rabck!! I've read Atkinson's Case Histories and while I wasn't thrilled by it I thought I should give her another try. I'm glad to see the previous two readers really enjoyed it. Thanks again for thinking of me! I'll read this and keep it moving!

I know this isn't strictly what JEs are for but I just wanted to say that tonight at the Oxford Literary Festival I heard Kate Atkinson read extracts from her new book (When will There be Good News) and speak about her writing. She said Human Croquet is (also!) her favourite book. She sounded just as she writes and was hugely entertaining. I definitely am a fan.
