An entertaining, anecdotal, if not completely factual, look at the history of the English language in the United States and the evolution of American culture. Bryson’s wry wit kept me chuckling throughout the book.

For a Bryson book it was a bit dry. Lots of history of the United States and woven into the history long list of words that appeared in the context. For 'non-Bryson' standards it was still entertaining.
