Journal Entry 1 by MyssCyn from San Antonio, Texas USA on Saturday, October 11, 2008
I received this book as a RABCK from terra57 When I entered her contest I said I hoped whoever won would make this one into a ring. Well, I won and now I'd like to start a ring. This is a very funny book about a woman who wins the lottery and then has to contend with her extended family and their craziness.

Journal Entry 3 by JennyC1230 from Woodstock, Georgia USA on Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Book Description: When Ursula Barnett and her husband Jed win the Irish lottery, they think their troubles are over. But they are just beginning. Ursula coerces her Yank husband to retire in her hometown of Derry, Northern Ireland, hoping to atone for her youthful sins as a collaborator with the IRA in the 1970s. At the first sniff of Ursula s lotto win, however, her chronically greedy sister-in-law Fionnuala Flood rallies the family against Ursula. Fionnuala s life is a misery. She is married to a boozing fish-packing plant worker and raising seven seedy hooligans, from a convict son to an eight-year-old devil-daughter who will resort to desperate mesaures to secure the perfect Holy Communion gown. Between two part-time jobs, Fionnuala still finds the energy to put into motion plans which pit husbands against wives, daughters against mothers, the lawless against the law and Fionnuala against anyone fool enough to cross her path. Family saga and black comedy, love story and courtroom drama, An Embarrassment of Riches will take you on a journey to Northern Ireland and beyond, where Protestants and Catholics wage battle daily, and where crossing family with finance leads to heartache and hilarity, passion and tragedy. This is an autographed copy.

Journal Entry 4 by JennyC1230 from Woodstock, Georgia USA on Tuesday, January 06, 2009
This was different from most other books I have read! I saw it described as a black comedy. In a way it reminded me of The Confederancy of Dunces by: John Kennedy Toole. Fascinating, heartbreaking...sort of the Irish version of a Jerry Springer show. I really liked it though! I had to see how it would turn out. Once I got a handle on the way they spoke and figured out all the words (they nearly have their own language!) I didn't want to put it down. I posted this book in the Bookray forum, so if there is any interest I will send it on a wonderful journey!

This book is wild and wacky, that's for sure! I did have a bit of a hard time with the northern Irish lingo ... but the little bookmark in the front in the spot for the "Derby-Speak Dictionary" was very helpful!! I already have RCLoriH's addy, so will put this in the mail to her tomorrow. Thanks for including me in this bookray!

Well, I finished it but can't really say I enjoyed it. IMO it was a book about awful people doing awful things to each other. None of the characters were likable and sometimes I had a hard time understanding what was motivating them to act the way they did, other than just to be hateful to each other. However, thanks for including me in this BookRay. I have the address for the next person in line and will send the book on its way soon.

Have to say so far not a fave of mine...the characters are all quite unlikable which makes it hard for me to become invested in what happens to them. I have PM'd the next in line and will try to push on thru to the end to see if it makes me feel differently about this one : )
