Got this at the Commerce Court Earth Day Book Swap. Passing it on to CdnJane for now.
This is the 2nd of Kathy Reichs' books that I have read, having actually read the 2nd book Death du Jour, a couple of years ago. I don't think that having read the books in this order made my enjoyment any less. I'm also not sure that being an avid fan of Patricia Cornwell made it easier or more difficult to enjoy this book.
I love the fact that there can indeed be Canadian forensic mysteries. I think that the French Canadian touch makes for a more realistic approach.
Temperance Brennan is a character that I found tres sympathique and in a bizarre way, easy to connect with. There is lots of explanation and technical detail about the workings of the departments, not only her own, but the rest of the police forensics. I really did have a hard time putting this book down and getting off at the right subway stop!
MissEfficiency gave this book to me to read and pass back to her when I finished it... so it goes back to her. SEEEEEE I CAN JOURNAL WHEN I WANT TO!!!!!!!!

As mentioned, very similar to Patrica Cornwells books. Extremely gripping read with all kinds of details of forensics, and autopsies and good old fashioned detective work. And its set in Canada! Cool! The montreal setting adds some nice atmosphere to the whole proceedings. Highly recommended, although maybe not for the squeamish! Can't wait to read more by the same author! Not sure where its going next, maybe Miss Efficiencys TBR pile.
Finished this this AM, lounging in bed on my day off. It was an interesting read, but I don't think I'd rave about it as much as the two previous journallers. Perhaps it helps to have gained an appreciation for Patricia Cornwell's novels. I've only read Isle of Dogs of hers, and I understand it was quite a departure for her.
Anyway, I found this interesting enough that I would like to read more of Reichs' work. I liked the character Temperance Brennan, and especially enjoyed her struggles with professional detachment. I also like the irony that Temperance is a recovered alcoholic. I like that the author has such an expert knowledge of forensics, but I found she spent too long on the technical aspects in some parts. I actually fell asleep reading the part about kerfs, bridges, and false starts!
I'll likely release this in the wild soon, possibly on Canada Day, since it is set in Montreal.

Passed the book on to my mother-in-law last night. She works with ReMax, so maybe she'll release it at their office when she's done with it.
