The 18th Discworld novel.
From the back cover:
'The show must go on, as murder, music and mayhem run riot in the night ...
The Opera House, Ankh-Morpork ... a huge, rambling building, where innocent young sopranos are lured to their destiny by a strangely-familiar evil mastermind in a hideously-deformed evening dress ...
At least, he hopes so. But Granny Weatherwax, Discworld's most famous witch, is in the audience. And she doesn't hold with that sort of thing.
So there's going to be trouble (but nevertheless a good evening's entertainment with murders you can really hum ...)
'Pratchett is as funny as Wodehouse and as witty as Waugh' Independent'
Not entirely sure I understand how mayhem can run riot, but there you go ...
This is my #1 favorite Discworld book. Pterry's take on The Phantom of the Opera. Absolutely fantastic and marvellous.
This is a paperback copy from Corgi Books, published in 1996. The book was originally published in hardcover in 1995.
I got this book at a flea market at Eiksmarka elementary school in Oslo on Saturday, May 25th, 2008.

Finally getting around to finding a new reader for this ... ! :-)
Please note that this copy has the old original Josh Kirby cover, not the new one that I see is currently pictured. SO annoying that the site keeps updating covers ... !!

I had almost finished all the books I'd carried with me when I came across this book in the Norway central train station (traveler's information kiosk). It saved me from a fate worse than death...not having a book to read on my way home! Terry Pratchett is a new experience for me, but I like the book so much, I'm deep into the list of Discworld novels. Thanks.
I am a huge Terry Pratchett fan :D I've read all of the Discworld novels and am currently working my way through them again--but this time, reading them according to their sub-series. So, I'm currently reading the Witches' books. This is another winner!! This is also my first experience with Bookcrossing. How fun! I found this copy at Powell's in Portland, but now that I've read it, I'm going to drop it in a Seattle-area Little Free Library.
