Victor Holland comes flying out of the night into the path of Catherine Weaver's car. Horrified by his broken body, Cathy rushes him to the hospital, praying for his survival. But, her nightmare had just begun. Because Victor is running for his life, and their shocking encounter has put Cathy in mortal danger.

Victor has uncovered a terrifying secret - and the trail leads all the way to Washington, where powerful men will go to any lengths to silence him.Victor's story sounds like the ravings of a mad man, but the haunted look in his eyes-and the bullet hole in his shoulder-tell a different story. As each hour brings pursuers ever closer, Cathy has to wonder, is she giving her trust to a man in danger or trusting her life to a dangerous man?

This is Tess Gerritsen in her early days: cliches galore, and glaring mistakes (or is this just me being my usual picky self? . . . A man has been shot, run over and hospitalised, then had all his stuff nicked from the hospital . . . so it shouldn't be suspicious when he's discovered to be travelling light! And having had his bank account frozen and his money pinched, where did he get cash for clothes!)
By the end of the book I was more than nauseated by the number of times Cathy and Victor fell swooning into each other's arms, corny expressions abounding, but . . .
I am a huge Tess Gerritsen fan: her books are well planned and the details are ingeniously thought out - I mean, who better than a sci-fi make-up artist to change the appearance of a wanted man!
If she re-wrote this book now that she's more experienced, it'd be up there with her other top books.
Thanks, Plum-crazy, I did enjoy it. Honest.

Finished this while having the car expertly cleaned - left behind for staff / other customers to enjoy.
