Ludo and the Star Horse was a rather boring and predictable book. (I don't think the two epithets must necessarily coincide, but this time they did.) Ludo's journey is not a gripping enough theme in its own right, and the bigger picture of growing as a human being and finding oneself was too clichéd to be interesting. Clichés are often true, but it's hard to make a good story out of them. An author needs a lot of skill for that.

I picked up Ludo and the Star Horse because, to my knowledge, Mary Stewart has written one good children's book. It's called The Little Broomstick and I really enjoyed it. The adult books by Mary Stewart are rather boring too. I guess I have no more need to read her works. However, I of course hope and believe that someone out there will enjoy Ludo's story. That's what bookcrossing is all about: I may not appreciate the same things others do, and vice versa. So I'll let this book travel on its journey, and hopefully find new appreciative readers.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

A sweet little book that I might have liked when I was 7-10.
Now I agree with Harmaja that it was a little bit boring. I wish there had been more details and time spent in each 'house', sometimes there was minimal interaction with the inhabitants. Also, it would have benefitted from some sort of explanation of each of their motivations - why were some of them so much friendlier that others? For example why was the water-carrier in particular so kind, and the crab, (which was supposed to be especially menacing but hardly posed much threat at all in the end) so, well, crabbit? Why did the twins let themselves be bossed around by that bloke who came out of nowhere, aren't they the rulers of their own domain? Why were the lion and the maiden together when all the others were on their own? What were they all doing up there?
Will bring to the BC meetup in rosie's pub tonight.
