I *was* planning to eventually release this book at the "Bodies" exhibition here (see chapter 12) but I feel bad for the people who signed up for the stalled book ring for my first copy. That book has now gone to the Lost Book Island; I still hope that it will come home some day.

Here's a review of the book so potential readers have an idea of what they're getting into.

This copy will be headed out as a replacement once I finally get my act together.

Here's the revised list:

1. ayntastic (California)
2. velvetsack (Wyoming)
3. Scarlett07 (Colorado)
4. cafekat (Pennsylvania)

Please try not to keep the book longer than a month, and if you feel you must, please give me a status update periodically so everyone knows what's happening; it's only fair to the people after you on the list!

Thanks, and happy reading!

11/2/08 - saw the plastinated Bodies exhibition today. Fascinating and amazing and at times beautiful and heartbreaking. If you enjoyed this book you'd probably like the show as well.

5/01/09 - cafekat will ray this book forward after reading it.

Got this one in the mail from Hyphen8 today - I've already read the intro and I'm thoroughly hooked! Thanks for sharing.

Roach's book was at times hilarious, poignant, disgusting, unbelievable, intriguing, and delightful. I truly enjoyed this novel in all of it's gruesome glory. The chapter on cannibalism was sublime, and I particularly enjoyed the historical perspective on body snatching. Who knew that a book about dead bodies could be so lively!

I've had this book for a few days now but have been busy and have forgotten to report it. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. I'll get it read as soon as I can!

My apologies to everyone involved in this ring. The past couple months have been busy for me and I've had to put this on the back burner. I've been truly meaning to get around to it. I haven't. I'll send it along as soon as possible. Again, I'm sorry for keeping this so long.

Received this in the mail today. Will probably start it tomorrow.

I very much enjoyed this book. It is in turns very informative and gross but a worthwhile read. Roach did a good job of making this subject a learning experience. I will get it out to cafekat as soon as I PM her and get an address.

Thanks Hyphen8 for including me in this ring and thanks for getting another copy to finish it.

Have wanted to read this for a few years now. Thanks for offering it as a ray. I am about to send my current read on its way to the next in line and then I will start this one. Thanks to Scarlett07 for getting it here safely.

This book was given to me by cafekat who unfortunately is just way too busy to read all the books in her bag. We will send it on soon.

Interesting topic and very fine piece of writing. One would think that a book on the history of cadavers would be dry and horrifying. Roach's approach is quite witty and intense but brings the subject into perspective then and now. Really fascinating to read.

Cafekat got this back today, and I hijacked it for a few minutes - I've heard good things about it and wanted to give it a try - but reading while eating probably wasn't the best idea ever, and I really don't need any more books to travel with, so I'm leaving it here at Cafekat's place...

After years of fantasizing about reading this book...it is done! My bookclub had suggested reading this some years ago and for some reason, we didn't. After having it here, I think it was probably a good idea that we did not attempt to discuss this at dinner with a group of mostly nonmedical people who tend to get "grossed out" easily.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this book, hyphen8. I have now left it in the wild to be enjoyed by someone else.

I found this book on the newspaper stand outside of Pawleys Wine & Spirits. I thought one of our customers had left it there and held it in the office for a few weeks. I didn't notice the sticker on the inside cover. I have moved a few times since then, and just pulled it out to read. Just wanted to let you all know where it is now... and I will be sure to send it on its way as soon as I am done. :)
