This is one of my choices for the bookclub I'm part of. It was nothing as I expected. Having said *that*, I couldn't really say whet I expected it to be like, other than I kept thinking that it might have been written by Oscar Wilde, solely because he wrote 'The Importance of Being Earnest'* Anyway, 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' could be described in a number of ways. It gives an overview of the political situation in Czechlosvakia when it was invaded by Russia, which was actually quite interesting given I knew nothing of this part of history at *ALL*. It's a study of relationships - most of Tomas and Tereza in Prague, but also of Sabina and Franz and these were interesting, if not gripping. Finally, there's a good dash of philosophy in the for good measure, which I didn't appreciate as much as I could have...
Overall I was probably non-plussed about this book - to be fair I read it when I was tired and late at night and I don't think this benefited the book. Oddly, the bit that has stayed with me most is the final chapter in which Tomas and Tereza have to deal with their old and dying dog - it was quite emotional!!
Another member of my group mentioned that she read it on the train to and from work, which gave her 5-10 minutes to absorb and think about what she'd read when she got of the train and was walking home/to work. I probably won't read the book to check this out, so I'm now offering it on the VBBOz...
*NB: I'm familiar with TIoBE so I knew it wasn't *that*, but the titles are similar.... !

I found it a very interesting book. It not only took me on the journey of a novel, discovering Prague and some of the people who live and love there. It is also a kind of interactive book which forced me to think about philosophical questions and to reassess my answers and attitudes.
Obviously I must have re-picked this up at a BC meetup. Will take to the April BC meetup today!
