(This copy has a different cover.) From the cover: Gabriel García Márquez's Love in the Time of Cholera is a brilliantly crafted, beautifully written story of love and the love-sick. Spurned as a young man, Florentino Ariza has a half century of waiting to fill before a chance to redeclare his love for Fermina Daze comes, when her husband is killed retrieving a parrot from a mango tree. Funny, poignant and heartfelt - enduring and unrequited love have rarely been more movingly expressed. I read this a few years ago and thought it was very good. This copy will be sent as a Christmas RABCK later today.

Thank you very much ukcanaus. I really like Márquez' books, but this is one that I haven't read yet.

Ok - what do I say now? I have struggled with this book for about 4 months... and I fianlly got through it last night. The book has been on my nightstand, and I've read an average of 4 pages each evening before falling asleep. I honestly do not know why this book did not agree with me? - I love the works of Gabriel García Márquez - I'm an avid reader of books set in South/Middle America - I love books with magical realism But Love in the Time of Cholera and I never made friends. Nevertheless, I did not cave in. I finished the book and I'm happy for Florentino and Fermina, sailing up and down the river enjoying their love.

Congratulations! Thank you for arranging this RABCK. This book has been added to my TBR. I am trying to read a few of the 25 books that were issued (this was on the list) for World Book Night 2011 before the next one in 2012! Hope to get on to this one soon :)

Journal Entry 6 by Diane-Fraser at Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Sunday, May 20, 2012
This is yet another book I would not have chasen had it not been on the World Book Night list for 2011. I am so pleased I decided to try and read all the books on this list :0) This is a "grown up" book with small font and lots of pages, not a book to skim or read through at a pace of knots for me. I had to take my time and digest this story of love and the love-sick. (S)
